Some of you must have characters with more than 100 % on some skill.

    I have a thief with 130 % stealth. Does it make a difference if it's 130 or 100 % ?

Hiding in shadows in full daylight with no shadows around is a little tough. If your skill is above 100%, you might even succeed more than once in a week.

Yeah and with the 'find traps' skill you simply spot them quicker for however many points you go over 100. However unless every other skill is at a 100 i would not go over a 100 with anything.

I always try to get open locks to 100%, as Sir Dargorn says, it's not necessary to go over 100% on any of your skills

But is it really so that if you have 100% you succeed every time? Maybe that isn't the meaning of the points.

[IMG] As far as i understand it-
Having 100% in a thief skill means you would suceed 100% of the time if there were no modifiers/penalties.
For example hiding in daylight you incur a penalty to your hide in shadow skill. So it is 100% minus penalty = your skill for that particular time.
This is why you get shop's which are harder to steal from than others. Each shop has a differnet 'degree' of penalty to steal from it, making some shops very easy to steal from and others very hard.

Also even if you do have over 100% (say 133%) and are doing something with no penalties/modifiers then theres still a small chance that you will still fail. I'm guessing that in the engine the highest actual ability score [after modification/penatlies applied] is about 95%-99% since this appears to be the succes rate even with a pumped up thief (with very high 120%+ scores) in optimum circumstances.

Just my thoughts from playing the game, i could be totally wrong but it makes sense to me anways.

[Edit] Thanks tal for comfirming my theory.

[IMG] No, you're right. 100% does not mean success every time. Even at 133% you can fail, though not often.

I read somewhere that a roll of 1 is an automatic fail.
It was talking about THAC0, AC, and hit rates I think, but I would think that the rule would work for all AD&D stuff.
So like if you had a 100% thieving skill, you'd have a 99% chance of success.
