Ok, I just bought the new IceWind Dale bundle. I went to download the Trials of Luremaster. I had to go to file planet. I've gotten stuff from them before.
    My question is this. Why?
Why can't I just download from Black Isle directly? Or elsewhere for other games.
I had to wait 45 minutes, it took forever to download, and when I went to install the file, oopps, something was wrong with the file. Grrrr :bang:
So now I am trying it again. It better work.
See here is the falacy in this. The ToL is suppose to be free. But if I don't want to wait to download it, I have to pay and subscribe.
If I want to download a free trial demo, but don't want to wait, I have to pay to suscribe.
Am I the only one frustrated by this?

Go to Download.com and get yourself Kazaa and download it through that, that's what I did...

Not that big a chance of getting corrupt download that way either.

[IMG] And my only comment is, serves you right. On SP there's a direct download link to the file. Buy hey, you seem to prefer the torture of FP for some reason...

P.S. Don't get Kazaa. It installs spyware on your computer and steals commissions from Amazon associates like me. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. If you had any idea of all the things it does with your computer behind your back once you install it, you'd be horrified.

And if you're thinking of just installing it to grab some quick warez and then uninstall, think again. When you uninstall it, it'll leave all the malicious contents nestled hidden in your system. In short, once you infect your system with Kazaa, reinstalling your OS is the only way of getting rid of it for good.

Search for an old post about fileplanet; I had an interesting proposition that I still will be willing to take up, provided the support.

Tal, I've tried the link on SP. But everytime I get some message about how mamy people are using the server and to try again in 10 minutes. I get that everytime. Maybe I'm just not patient enough?
I'm using Compuserve to browse the internet, could that be my problem? Wouold there be any difference if I logged on with Compuserve, but opened Internet Explorer to surf?
Unrelared side-note: And don't everyone start in on Compuserve. I know how much better other ISPs are and stuff. I simply got CS because I got $400 off on my computer. True I make up for it in CS fees for three years, but $400 off at one time with other rebates really helps! :)

I changed the link, it now goes to a site with 4 mirrors listed, none of them FP. You should be able to get one of them working, at least.

Like I was saying on the IwD board.

If you absolutely can't seem to get it, I will upload it for you.

But you have to make it easy on me.

The easy way is to setup an ftp server, and 'll upload the thing to you. Figure 14 or 15meg/hour, it'll take a single night to upload it.

It's like 72 meg, and I have it in one big file. I don't think I have it .aced down, so I'd ace it and put in about 5% error correction, bringing the total up to 77meg or so.

    Sir B:

First, download Xteq's "X-setup", and remove any just from your registry startup entires. You can do it manually, if you like. Do a reg search for "Run Once".

Download "AdAware", and let it run through your system.

Then download Zonealarm, and check which programs are wanting access. If you see something like "Cy Technologies", "Run a DLL as an APP", or "Someother crap program which you have never heard of", find it and destroy it.

I'm assuming, of course, you're not using WineX. =)

    @Bel

Kazaa (the old plain hevy version) contains spyware(well, it gotta know what files your sharing)

But fear, not AD-aware (freeware, IIRC) will remove all your dangerous spyware.
But use caution since a wrong setup will cause that Kazaa (Lite) will stop working.

Or you could always use Kazaa Lite, since it will block (most) incoming spyware

Bel, I don't know about those and in the past, but all such file-sharing programs are more or less the same bag of tricks today. At the least, they all contain spy/snoopware.

Kazaa does, Tal, only because the company has some stuff stuck back in the EULA.

It's got code in there that lets them use your idle cycles to process stuff for THEIR profit. Just like Seti or that Folding screensaver stuff.

Rather nice of themm, too. I like it when people use me for their personal whore. Gives me this warm "I've-just-been-completely-used-and-discarded" femine feeling.

But, in the end, it's all just Gnutella. Kazaa is Gnutella protocol, but they have an extra "login" feature that everyone likes.

    Including the RIAA and MPAA.

Gnucleus is a win32 gnutella client that lets you "opt-out". And there's some open source clients that run well under Linux, and are being ported over to Win32 as well.

Kazaa just happened to make headlines because it got slash-dotted for it's interface.

Well I'm glad I never made that mistake of getting any of those programs.
Anyways, after 9 hours, long hours, it finally downloaded completely. I installed it. I am going to try playing IWD, we'll see what happens.
THanks for the help. I have a friend who is burning the file on a CD for me so I won't have to deal with downloading it again. :)
