I just completed GTA3 the other day. I haven't completely finished it (finished the last mission and have 1 phone booth set of missions to do, plus the mission where you have to drive the securicar about for a while).

I can say it only ever took 3 attempts at even the hardest missions to succeed, but mostly i did them on the first try. And on the missions that took more than one go, i found i either got anihilated, or barely touched.

I also thought it was a bit rubbish when you have a load of felony, but then finish the mission and the felony automatically drops to zero, as if they suddenly forgot you just commited the crime.

Anyone else who played it find it too hard/easy or indifferent??

There are only a couple of challenging missions which involved time. Other than that, it's a fairly easy game. I didn't have trouble beating through it. Kinda short, could have been longer IMO. I didn't like how the 3rd part of the city was barley used. They could have done a lot more there.

I don't think that's really the point of Grand Theft Auto games. They don't really fit into the usual genres because while they are chock full of violence and running and the like, they don't really have a goal. In Unreal 1, the goal is to get the hell off Na Pali. In Clive Barker's Undying, the goal is to break the curse on your friend. In both, you have a goal, getting there just happens to involve killing dozens of enemies. In GTA III, the vague goal is to rise in the ranks of the underworld (you know, crime syndicates) and get lots of cash. You can do the missions if you want, or you can just wander around killing everybody you come across until you die. You're basically allowed to do whatever the hell you want. Want that car? Take it. Don't like that guy? Blow him away. I think I want to drive an ambulance off a bridge. Be my guest.

The fact that it's easy is part of what makes it. Realistically, one shot and you could die. You run into something, and while your car doesn't take much damage, YOU do. Not to mention the fact that if the police are sending that many people after you, trying to bribe them won't be very successful. (that's what those little star pick ups represent. Bribe the cops so one level of 'wantedness' vanishes.) Besides, hospitals aren't magic $1000 resurrection machines.

So enjoy it for what it is. A game where the idea is to create random chaos and spread insanity.

Haven't played it yet, but I've heard it's really violent.

I am, however, just starting on a little of Soldier of Fortune2 this evening. I am appaled at it, so I don't see how much worse GTA3 can be.

On a related side note, I've been using the automatic shotgun. It seems to be getting good results for me. :mommy:

Appalled by SoF2? You need more bloodlust :p

No, i can't comment on it's gore level, as i only played a demo, so it was quite censored i believe (well, there was no blood or dismeberfest).
