Hard to play parties

Hullo, after reading the thread about strategy, I kinda got to thinking, its easy to use standard strategies and tactics, so to better myself on developing new and interesting ones, what would be some difficult yet not impossible parties to play?

Iv not yet gotten the game so I was planning to use a few of the pre-made parties first to kinda be forced into different ways of playing. I would like to know what yal think would be some challenging parties. Maybe something like a combination of druids and rangers as a "nature" party, or one of just fighters and barbarians.

 

You can solo the game with any class, so your options are immense. I recommend playing a normal party first and choose classes which disappointed you or which weren't in your first party later.

But before you think about hard parties you'd better test if you're skilled enough to beat the game with one of the pregenerated parties.

The overpowered classes are cleric and sorcerer, a game without them is surely much harder.

 

The most challenging parties would consist of characters whose races are ill-suited (or just 'not the best') to their class.

For example, if the best class for Paladin or Sorcerer is a Human or Aasimar, try using a Half-Orc Sorcerer. Or a Halfling melee-orientated fighter. And just go from there. Pick characters who aren't suited to what they do...And Drow Paladins don't count, 'cause their CHA/STR/INT is still good, which still makes them good Paladins.

That's hard on the individual character though. A party like that is pretty hard in itself. If you're looking for a party that 'makes sense' and is still hard to play; You're right, a party of Fighters and Barbarians would have a very hard time without spellcasters (assuming you don't multiclass).

Kmonster is right though; Any party without a cleric or sorcerer is missing out on some pretty devastating characters.
