Help, I can't fight.

    I am not sure if I found a glitch or if I screwed something up but I am not too far into the game and I can't seem to fight anything. Thugs with the red/hostile circle around them will come up to me but I can't make anyone fight and the enemies won't attack me either, they just follow me around the screen. This is not my first time playing the game, I have finished it several times but this is the first time I can remember this ever happening
    Any thoughts?

    Couple of questions - Is the game installed on a new computer or OS? Is this the same install you used before or did you re-install it? If the latter, did you patch it? Are you using mods that you have not used before?

    Thanks for responding. My computer is running on vista. This is the first time playing the game on this computer. I did not patch it (I have the 2 disc version and was under the impression it was already patched, i've never had to patch it when using windows xp). I have never used a mod for this game.
    Also, I'm not sure if it makes any difference but the game didn't start doing this until I started running errands for the mid wife to get trained as a mage.
    I can still attack with spells, but enemies still just stand there.
