Help with HLA and Weapons

Hi.
I recently finished SOA and need help regarding wich weapons and HLA:s to use from more experiensed an wise players. Currently I use:
Kensai: Celestial and Crom Faeyr
Keldorn: Carsomyr
Minsc: Equalizer and Daystar
Anomen: Skullgnasher and shield
Viconia:Warhammer (forgot wich one) and shield
Imoen: Gesen or Daikons.
If you think there's a better weapon combo or I should swich a character. And please HLA tips for all my characters.
I don't mind spoilers.

 

Looks like you're doing pretty good!

The only thing I would say is ditch the Skullcrusher. Early in TOB you can find the Storm Star, and the Flail of Ages should absolutely go to Anomen. It's great in SoA, and is a monster once upgraded in ToB. I hope you have a proficiency or 2 in flails (can't remember if Anomen comes with it or not). There are plenty better blunt weapons than the Skullcrusher, especially when TOB comes around.

That's interesting with Minsc. I've never heard of anyone dual-wielding longswords with him before. Most people stick to 2-handed swords with him. There are several good 2-handed swords, if you're interested. The War Blade, Harbinger, Soul Rever (may have to be evil for this one, Im not sure). Also, think about giving him some proficiency in Halberds. I love the halberds in the game, and they're worth looking at.

Since you have Crom Faeyr, get Viconia her RuneHammer, and upgrade it.

As for HLAs, I like using three hardiness abilities, hence becoming completely immune to physical damage.

Make sure Imoen gets Summon (Dark) Planetar

 

Yeah, halberds. From some reason, the elemental damage (1 of each kind) from Dragon's breath halberd (or such) ocasionaly went through combat protections of mages and liches and stopped their casting

The first time I played though SOA I thougt there was a few interesting longswords so in the next game minsc got to play with them and it's working better than when he was using the Vorpal and Lilacor(But i sure miss it's humor)

I think that using 3 hardness seems boring and quite cheesy, but thats just me.

Is'nt Halberds slow and boring, the same speed as two handed swords but with less damage...???

 

Woops - forgot about the Vorpal before. No, they do the same damage, 1d10, but there are a few 2-handers that do 1d12. They're a bit slower in speed factor I suppose, but I've never had any bad results with them. The Ravager in TOB and The Wave in SoA are both great weapons. But I do understand weapons are very much up to personal preference. I thought the Equalizer was lame and sold it, even though it's touted otherwise. I also gave Imoen the Firetooth dagger for a while, before I made the Gesen Bow.

 

get rid of equalizer, its almost useless. (there arent many neutral enemies are there ^_^)

Get blackrazor instead (as off hand) and when you find onbe better than daystar, get rid of daystar.
angurvaddal is a nice longsword you can use instead of daystar. though there are other longswords out there.

when you visit amekthran you can get the bow darkfire +4 which is nice, although you should look at it and see if you really need it.

about HLA's

get greater whirlwind.
imoen should get "use all items" if its avaible.
and for your spellcasters....extra spells never hurt.

 

If you want to use two handed swords and halberds, I think it's better to ditch Minsc and get Sarevok. He has 5 stars in THS, plus he has the deathblow ability.
I don't think Minsc can use the blackrazor because it's only for evil people..

 

i dont think blackrazor is for "evil persons" only..

anyway......bastardswords is a nice weapon class if you still can get profiencient in it (foebane and purifier).

 

Blackrazor is a long sword; not a two-handed sord. If you cheated in Blackrazor, then it's not for evil people. If you kept it from the Tests in Hell, then it changes your alignment to evil.

 

Soul Reaver is evil only.

Blackrazor can be used by anyone, but the protagonist becomes evil whenever you get it.

It isn't. Imoen is limited to mage HLAs.

About HLAs to choose, Greater Whirlwind, Critical Strike are the best ones for fighters. Comet, Planetar, Improved Alacrity are the best for mages. Get Keldorn summon Diva. Almost all the cleric ones are good.
