im having trouble deciding what my protagonist should be...i've played through as an inquisitor and i dont even know how many times ive played like halfway through then decided that i want to start a new game. so heres the npc's im gonna get:

    minsc--gonna sk him to range/cleric
    keldorn
    jan/imoen
    aerie
    mr.ToB--in SoA im thinkin korgan

so what class should i be, im leaning towards a fighter type, and maybe blade...but...can anyone help?

Well, since you seem fairly melee oriented, I would say go Blade or some other magic slinger. You could also try a Monk, since you do not really need anything in particular since your party is very balanced. So, in conclusion, I think a Blade work quite well or an arcane user as your main magic user since both of your mages are multi-classed, and dual-classed with Imoen.

    Just my two cents.

hey thanks for the insight, what about the famous "kensage"?? ive played the kensai, and im kinda hooked to the idea of having +13hit and dmg, and also what aout swashbukler? they're kinda the same as kensais but also gain and ac bonus every 5 levels. oh and if i go swashbukler i can get edwin :)

Your welcome, and hopefully I will be just as insightful this time as well.

Kensai would probably work, though if you go that route, I would dual-class him/her to a thief so s/he can use bracers and wear armor, or be a mage so you can wear robes instead of armor.

A swashbuckler is also a nice idea, though you would not really need to go through the whole game as a single-class swashbuckler if you would be doing it for the thief-skill points, so I would probably dual-class there as well, to either a mage or a fighter, or whatever else that suits your fancy.

For both, I would dual-class at either level 9, 13, or maybe 15(swashbuckler)/16(kensai) for the extra abilities, though I think 9 or 13 would be the only options if you want to get the second class to the maximum level. Correct me if I am wrong.

I would say Sorcerer myself, but it seems to me that you definetely want to go for a melee fighter (Sorcerer is just too cool for words, you know...). Swashbuckler would be the best choice, because a thief at high levels is godlike (not like the Sorcerer, but godlike enough for my taste). Too bad that you already have two rogues in your party. And, maybe is just me, but I don't like multi or dual-class-ing neither. I like to get the best out of my character and make him exceed at his own abilities. I hate to win a battle as a mage with my dualed fighter. It's just not right to me.
    Monk is very well indeed.
Well, you should have in mind that you already tried the fighting part and maybe is time for a change. In the AD&D system there are 4 major classes: Warrior, Priest, Rogues and Wizards. You should try something different, a minor change of style. If you finished the game with an inquisitor, starting a new game with a kensai to me sounds just stupid. It's almost the same thing.
Why don't you try a cleric? The healer, wering full plate, Saving Grace, Crom Faeyr... Very powerfull! And he will cast a very decent variety of spells, too (specially that a cleric does not have that boring one round brake between his spells). Great summoner and a good suport fighter, too. Plus, Aerie is way too weak.
    So, what do you think?

    i say:

ditch aerie and keldorn and take jan and mazzy instead for lots of funny conversation.

in tob, ditch minsc for sarevok to get even more funny dialogues.

but if you arent really interested in dialogues, the party you have chosen works just fine.
