Help with Spells

    How do u choose the spells that u want to be proficinet in later levels? in the beginning u can choose some, but later is it random?
    And can i be a mage and dual to a kensai later or do i become a fighter/mage?
    Lastly, what are the most important spells one should choose in the beginning of the game( i.e. when u create yur character)

    After choosing spells that you wish to have, you can only get new spells by learning the spell (by reading a scroll) In the beginning I would advice magic missiles, fireball, dispel.

    You can become a Kensai/Mage yes.

    you can only choose 1 kit when u create your char, so choose kensai first, then mage

    However I won't advise you to be a dual class if that's the firs time you're playing bg2. You should be better of with some sort of a warrior (you can also be a mage but just don't dual-class), and then when you play the game for a second time you should already know which spells you need.

    melf's minute meteors. You get a large supply of weapons that hit as +5 weapons. They also kick the crap out of trolls and undead.

    Don't forget that Melf's Minute Meteors hurts Golems too. There is a decent amout of those in the game too.
