Has anybody noticed that when they become extremely powerful the game compensates for it. Example: I took out all of the Shadow temple before with a 6 person party of around 12th level and it was a breeze. Now, I just went there on my new quest with my soloist, Anorath (Kensai/Mage) who just happens to be at level 16 and man what a different place! There are Greater Mummies and Demi-Liches here now. And the Shadow Dragon is no push over this time. I still killed them all and looted their dead carcasses but, it was alot more difficult. (Alot more fun too though so, I guess I can't complain). :D

Yep. Even Irenicus' dungeon has harder monsters if you are high enough.

    Hah. Reminds me of something...

I imported my char from BG1 which had about 170k of experience and almost fell over when I saw all those puny goblins in Irenicus' dungeon at the start.

When I played the beta I created a new sorcerer and played with him through the game, and BOY was it tougher then!
Replace all goblins you get to kill in the original dungeon with mist, magma, steam etc. mephits + a dozen much more powerful monsters. It was quite a bit of a challenge for a (poorly) equipped party and I was wondering how the heck any newbies are going to come through this since I, a veteran, find it rather challenging.

Well obviously they realized they made the first dungeon waay too hard and fixed it in the final.
It was fun in the beta tho. I must've killed over 100 mephits of all kinds in the there while playing the beta. They were all over the place. Kinda funny.

I wonder what it would be like if you played it through with a level 30+ party?

LOL! I hated that guy! The first time I met him I killed him instead of taling to him the 30 some odd times for XP. The funny thing is that you don't lose reputation for killing him. I think you should actually gain reputation for killing him instead.

In my first trip through with a full party I polymorphed him into a squirrel and the had Jaheira change into a bear and eat (kill) him. It was pretty funny to watch. :D

    Ahhh... at least there's challenge.

I also experienced something like that. When I went to Windspear Hills, I noticed that there were a total of 4 Iron Golems and 12 stone golems inside (level 16monk ---2nd time thru the game). At my first time playing the game there were only 6 stone golems inside the dungeon.
    :p
