Just wondering if anyone has any good strategies for surviving the Horde Fortress (the perimeter area, after the goblin caves) in HOF. There seems to be an overwhelming number of enemies here.

    My party consists of:

    Aasimar Paladin 14/Fighter 4
    Dwarf Barbarian 15/Fighter 4
    Human Monk 19
    Human Cleric of Lathander 19
    Tiefling Rogue 2/Wizard 17
    Aasimar Sorceror 18

On a related note, I know Wail of the Banshee is supposed to affect friend & foe alike, but does it in this game?

Many thanks in advance for all your help...

You survived Trugnuk but are stuck here? That damn Orc and his horde are the worst for me.

Guess you are being pin-cushioned, right? Nothing takes down archers faster than a re-animated skeleton followed by a couple of Horrid Wiltings (just make sure you are out of range) and Wail of Banshees. To answer your question, no - Wails do not affect your allies.

Try to get the monsters to your position by using ranged weapons. Improved Invisible Monk stunning anyone he can reach so that the others can take them down at leisure.

Ah...wails DON'T affect allies...that'll change my approach. Now I don't have to send my sorceress out and pray she doesn't get slaughtered...

Also, I'll definitely try the II on the monk and see where that gets me.

As for the archers, they aren't that big of a problem, as I've been doing the undead + wilting trick. What usually happens to me is that once I take care of the archers, verbeegs, and goblins (the ones that wander down the stairs), a whole new set of enemies pops up from offscreen, and one of the spellcasters nails me with Dispel Magic and Unholy Blight, while the "grunts" surround me (and I can never seem to get the Mass Heal spell off in time...). Of course, with the Invisible Monk, I may be able to stun the spellcasters before this happens.

One thing I find useful is to pick a corner and make the enemies come to you; the NE corner is good for this, as its got good visibility, and you're probably going to be fighting there first, anyway. Set up your defensive positions and work from there. Improved Invis someone who can backstab, and someone who can summon. Send in a backstabber, attack, then summon to draw his heat.

That scrap at the entrance sucks bigtime :bang: You know you can mass invisible everyone and take them to the SE corner between the 2 Orc Archer groups.
Then it will become easier for your spell casters to set up a barrier of summons and web+grease to your north. The others can meanwhile take out the closest archers in melee.

Thanks for the help...I used II on both my monk and cleric, and summoned a couple more undead than I had been. That (and the ever-popular Horrid Wilting) got me through the early part of the battle, leaving a few enemies here & there for me to mop up...I also Mass Dominated a bunch of Hobgoblin Archers, which bought me a little more time toward the end. Now, for the inside...

That's the problem with Heart of Fury mode. That tactic is pretty much the same one you have to use for the rest of the game. Improved Invisibility + Wall of Summons.
