I'm currently soloing a sorcerer through HotU. I finished the first two Lvls of the Undermountain and I'm about to start Lvl 3. My sorc is level 17 but I didn't level up in Lvl 2 so I think I squatted about 2 levels.

I've had surprisingly little problems so far, even with big groups of creatures. But I'm guessing the time will come that multiclassing is necessary (or at least preferred) to advance solo. I was thinking RDD or Pale Master, or a combination of both.

    My questions are:
1.) I have no clue about when to multiclass. Do I get acces to a lot of extremely powerfull sorcerer spells beyond lvl 17?
2.) I have no idea about which class (RDD, Pale Master or both) (or something totally different?) complements my play style best... I usually throw a AoE immobilizing spell, followed by a AoE mass destruction spell, and afterwards I pick off loners that somehow got through.

    Some facts:
    - maxed out CHA and DEX
    - my familiar is the Pseudodragon
    - I don't have SoU, so I can't take one of those prestige classes
    - I will not take a henchman

Any suggestions are welcome (even crazy ones :D ), as long as they are functional...

Don't take PrC levels. The sorcerer gets new spells 'til level 20, and you mustn't miss out the level 9 ones.

After level 20, there is no problem going into a PrC. I suggest RDD. The ability increases are nice.

I would suggest a Paladin, as one level of Paladin gives Sorcerers an impressive increase to saving throws. More levels of Paladin would be a little useless considering your playing style relies almost exclusively on magic. For this reason levels in RDD also seem a bit of a waste - the RDD abilities don't really benefit a pure spellcaster much.

Another note - level squatting in NWN is useless. For the sake of experience, the game calculates your CL as what it SHOULD be with the experience you have, rather than which actual level you have leveled up to.

If you insist on multi-classing then take a Paladin level and 1 or 2 monk levels. This is the power-gamer's build and you will be unstoppable. I solo'ed a sorcerer through HOTU once and quit about halfway through from shear boredom. He was just too powerful. Peek into a room full of monsters, drop a Wail and then summon a demon to clean up the survivors. Rinse and repeat.

Pale Master and RDD are really only good for a melee build and only if you're going to take all 10 levels in them. There's just no point in a sorcerer taking them.

Thanks guys, I had thought about a paladin level, but I'm CN so that probably won't go... The monk levels seem a viable option, I have about 12 WIS (for the saving throws) and maxed out DEX so that shouldn't be too bad...

Say, if I (would) start over again, do i take the first 20 levels in sorcerer (as Fabius Maximus advised) and then the paladin and monk levels? Or do I take 'm earlier in the game to benefit from those levels?

You must Lawful to be a monk, therefore the Paladin/Sorc/Monk option requires Lawful Good.

I think there's too many NWN players who look at all those PrC's and think "wow! I just gotta try one!" when in fact, most are kind of lame and actually end up making your character weaker. Point is: a pure sorcerer is probably the best way to go. You won't get additional spells but you will get sorcerer-specific Epic Feats.

-> Hehe, keeping that alignment throughout the game would prove more difficult for me than actually finishing the game lol... (yea i know, i'm a bastard... :D )

-> You hit the nail on the head with that one! I just had to try one! :) I think that's normal too, I've played a lot of D&D games, and when there's something new, I wanna try it out. But you are right about the full blood sorcerer being the most powerful, so I'll just stick to that... The epic spells look wicked indeed...
