How do I stop BG2 from messing with my 'Environment' audio options?

I'm running this thing called AC97 Audio Configuration on Win XP (I think it came stocked with it). Under it's options it has all these different effects called 'Environment'. One for example is called 'Stone Room' and when selected it makes all your audio sound like it's echoing in a stone room.

I don't like these things. Thing is BG2 makes them kick in and it's really starting to irritate me. Anyone had experience with this before?

I did. I play in windowed mode and almost always listen to music while playing. It screws up my music when I'm in a dungeon. It's kind of annoying, but I don't know how to stop it either.

Last time I run Bg2 was on XP platform and I didn't experience the problem. As for XP, don`t let the OS take control of your general audio options. Instead, re-install your audio drivers and disable all sound control options from XP. A default installation should do.

Have you tried disabling environmental audio in the options menu of BG2?

[IMG] Here's one thing you could do... use the Edit option on all the different sound environments that get used, and set the configuration to be the same as the Generic one. Then even if it does switch, it'll all sound the same. I've had an AC97 integrated sound card on my MSI motherboard for a year now and never had any such problems with it... but then, I never played with EAX on, or BG2 for that matter. Maybe just disabling EAX will do it.

Edit: Actually, "Generic" is not the same as "None", so that wouldn't work. You'd have to figure out the settings for "None"...

Tal's right. Disabling the EAX stops it. My game used to echo a lot, until I accidentally pressed the EAX button on my USB sound card, problem fixed for me...for you, who can say? :p :rolling:

Tried disabling the environmental sound effects in BG2, no dice, doesn't change anything.

At the moment I'd say I've tried everything and it's my soundcard deciding to be an annoying bastard.

Will tinker around with changing the values later on.
