How do you people, yes you people that are able to reply to these boards because you've registered percieve Sauron as? I mean, how do you picture him?

As for me, he has always been this red eye thingy that sends out a beam from this dark tower surveying the land. I know its not an actual picture, but thats how i've always pictured him.

Question is, is how do YOU picture him?

Well, I've always wondered what the other eye looks like. And is his eye really lidless? Because if it is, I can really understand why it is so red.
To the question: I see him dressed in black with a cowl shadowing his facial features. The stereotypical evil mage in other words.
By the way, does he really have only one eye? It's been a very long time since I read the books.

Just a large fellow in a big robe/large cape. He's got a hood over his head, and the only thing visible is those red eyes. What is Sauron, by the way? He is a servant of Melkor from way back I know.

[IMG] I've always pictured kind of pictured a half man/half demon kind of thing...A cross between man and a Balrog. Horns, tail, dark, twisted, and evil. That's my guess...

Sauron in my mind is simply a shadow. A silhouette without feature. More of a shapeless power than a person with form or substance. And the Red Eye is more of a symbol than a attribute. I'm a little put out that they show sauron as a 'man' in the LotR trailer. According to the book he lost his 'real' body when Numonor (SP?) was destoryed. Thus he didn't really have a 'hand' or fingure to have the ring cut off at the end of the second age.

What is your take on this?

i always pictured him as nothingness really, similiar to voltric, just darkness in the purest form, i cant really describe this since it is impossible to BE darkness but i suppose thats about all i can say. Somehow i always also pictured him with a blood red robe with dark black insignias of evil such as spiked whips and such... although this refutes the whole darkness thing since something non-existant cant wear a robe.... i guess i dont really have a visual... i should go read the books again and get more info from them... im gonna read them now...

A large shadow... well spirit more I guess. Always pictured it when he was searching for Frodo as this massive shapeless spirit hovering over his mountain, taking on more shape and form as it gathers up into a huge unblinking red eye, with eerie red flames flaring outwards.
