If I don't have enough gold to purchase the shield of Balduran how do I deal with the beholders? I know there's spells for vampires and mindflayers but what about beholders?

Are you just intentionally opening new threads for minor questions to get the achievement or something?

Beholders are easy: spell turning, summons, magic resistance, spell immunity, and glitterdust will all cripple their rays. If you want a more cheesy approach, just blast them off-screen and slow them down with web if they start chasing you.

    Here are two plans

I.) Summon some powerful creatures ( like Aerial Servantor ( Clr6 ) and/or Fire Elementals ( Drd6) ) , buff them with spells ( like Haste ) and send them into front line .

Drawback : Sometimes , the Eye Tyrant will cast Death Spell which can totally wipe out your summoning legion .

II.) If you are looking for some fun , the wizard can become the perfect spell shield .

( Warning : The strategy works in the original game , I'm not sure if it works in Beamdog's version --- since there are tons of spell bugs in EE. )

First , let's sort out the Eye Ray Attacks :

    1.Charm Person

    2.Sleep

    3.Slow

    4.Fear

    5.Charm Monster

    6.Cause Serious Wounds

    7.Disintegrate

    8.Flesh to Stone

    9.Finger of Death

[A]: Attacks 1~6 are treated as level four spells or lower --- can be blocked by Globe of Invulnerability( Wiz6 )

    : 7~8 as level six spell --- can be blocked by Spell Immunity( Alteration/Transmutation )( Wiz5 )

[C]: 9 as level seven --- can be blocked by Spell Immunity( Necromancy )( Wiz 5) or Death Ward( Clr4 , Drd4 )

Since the wizard is protected by Globe of Invulnerability , you can throw spells such as Fireball or Skeleten Traps without endangering the caster .

    PS :

1.If you don't have Globe of Invulneravility and Spell Immunity , try Chaotic Command and Death Ward which should blocked all the Eye Rays except Cause Serious Wounds .( Edit 01 : Forgot to mention Free Action( Clr4 ) ,since they can Slow you ...... my bad ...)

    2.Watch out the Anti-magic Ray !!!

    Edit 02:

Forgot Gauth ... again , my apologies :(

IIRC , Gauth only have four Eye Ray Attacks : Charm Person (??) , Paralysis ( Hold Person or Hold Monster ?? ) , Lighting Bolt and Cause Serious Wounds

Apart from Globe spell and Spell Immunity , you probably need Free Action as well .

I'm "opening new threads" because I have questions. What achievement your talking about I have no clue nor do I care. I'm merely asking for help. I start different posts because I come up with different questions as I play.

If you are patient, you can use a bow character with good hide in shadows/move silently to take pot shots at them and wear them down slowly (I used an Archer). You have to move your other characters off into a corner somewhere they're not likely to be found then place the shooter at a corner and take a couple of shots at a Beholder that you can see then duck around the corner and hide. Rinse/repeat.

When every 4th post you make is a new thread, it's starting to look a bit excessive, especially when it's for stuff you could easily find out in 10 seconds by googling (or probably even searching the existing threads) instead of waiting on a forum frequented by a handful of old farts. ;)

Though I suppose I can't fault you for that, seeing as we have neither Q&A threads, nor active chatrooms at this point.

    1. Glitterdust will sometimes blind them.
    2. Rage will make a character immune to the worst effects.
    3. Cloak of Mirroring works almost as well as the shield.
    4. As SS said, fire elementals make every battle easier.
    5. Cloudkill (something to slow them like Web is good).
    6. Stealth is your friend (as BTA said).
    7. Dispel Magic is your other friend.
    8. I tend to find an overwhelming assault by the entire party will often kill the beholder before it can do much damage.
    9. Reload (save often -- especially if following #8).

Most encounters with beholders are easy -- there's only one or two. It's only in the underdark that it gets crazy.

Sneak around the map to see where they are or use the druid spell that lets you see through the fog of war, throw fireballs or other AoE spells just outside their range and then send in your hasted undead. At least that was my strategy.

Yeah, undead are probably the best summons to throw at them because of their spell immunitiy, beholders tear through all the others pretty quickly.
Spell Immunity: Abjuration helps to protect you from their anti-magic rays so they don't strip you of your buffs allmost instantly, and if you don't have the cloak of mirroring or balduran's shield, just manually cast Spell Turning.
