He doesn't really find you very threatening at that point, just a nuisance to his plans. So he doesn't put much effort into fighting you. And that's a good thing because when I met him in Spellhold I was emotionally disraught over Hoshimo, well not really but still...along came Imoen, my purple-haired companion. One of the first things she killed was a MindFlayer. Chaotic Commands, a 5th lvl priest spell offers protection from psionic blast, be quick and aggresive and they will fall.

Of course it's easy if you've recruited those other magicusers. All you really have to do then is fight your doubles.

I fairly good method I found for mindflayers is to have a fighter wearing a ring of freedom and something that give a mind shield. This allows them to avoid the psi blasts and lets the rest of your party other shoot the flayers full of arrows. You still have to watch out for the Int drain though.

I thought the lowest Intelligence you could have was three.

The thing that worked best for me through the whole game: summon up to five invisible stalkers, haste them and send them in the room with those nasty mind flayers and the likes. They seem to be immune for those mind blasts, even though they get those hold/control symbols over their heads. They clear out rooms and rooms full of mind flayers and your party doesn't lose a single hit point.

But some people think summuning is like cheating, and in this case, I almost have to agree with them ;)

Use the Greenstone-Amulet that protects you from the mind flayers...

why do all of you always take the easy way out? what ever happened to storming into a room swords drawn?
Instead it seems everyone here uses other things to do their bidding, or killing dragons without fighting. tell me, whats the point of the game if its not difficult?

Shura, how do you like your new avatar? Maybe I should change the title from Myconid Slicer to Fungi Lord. Has a nice ring to it. :D

[IMG] Don't you use Mordenkainen's Sword?
When that "monster" (=the sword) gets killed it leaves a Greenstone Amulet.

(I'm about to finish soloing as a dc F/M and use lot's of Animate Dead and Mordenkainen's Sword.)
