How is thac0 solved with dual-classed characters?

    From what I see, they have much worse thac0 than I would have expected from adding up what they should have got from leves in the first and the second class... Did I get something wrong or is it true and the rules are different? Also: is it different in IWD? (I don't want to open two topics on one subject)

    thac0 is from whichever class has the highest. The only things you will get from your first class in TOB in the number of attack per round, and any kit or class bonuses.

    When you first dual class you start with the THACO of a first level character for some reason. When you get your original class back, you get your old THACO back if it is better than your current one.

    As said, you get the better of the two (once you regain your first class). Same applies to multi-classing. And the same applies to saving throws.

    Just on this note how are health points allocated for multi-classed characters? Do they gain the HP for both or only the higest level?

    There is a good guide on ad&d rules here (it's the last one). The section on multi and dual classing answers your question. Basically, HP's on multi-classes are an average of the two (or three).
