    [IMG] A while ago I asked people how many hours a week they played this game (and others). I asked because I kept reading how people have played BG2 multiple times and seem to know every in and out of the game and it seemed like they spent every waking hour on this game. I know how it can be easy to say to yourself, "OK - this is the last encounter for the day. After this, I'll turn it off," and end up playing several hours more :)

    I was relieved to hear how most don't play as much as it seemed. Let's all keep in mind that there are gobs of other things to do in life than rot in front of a CRT.

    I hope I don't sound preachy - I'm not trying to come down on anybody - just a reminder that as much fun as all this is, it isn't real :eek:

    {side note: I think the 'romance' portion of the game is . . . uhm . . pretty damn weird! Hey, let's all let computers do our 'relationshipping' for us! :p
    Every time I heard that stupid Aerie music start, I thought to myself, "aw crAP! here it goes again!" and held back the urge to have my character just kill her to shut her up and get it over with :) The 'romance' with Aerie is disgustingly cliche and unrealistic. }

    if you think the game sux extremist then you can stick to the planescape board where you belong! The game does not suck.
    As for Aerie she sux. But that was taken out of the final version of he game.

    (this is just a jokey reply please don't go mental on me)

    Well I have to say that I do find your post a bit preachy and patronising. I'm not too annoyed by it though as you said you were 'concerned' so I guess you had good intentions (road to hell and all that). Personally I don't see a problem with spending a long time on a game as long as it doesn't turn into a real addiction type problem. (Hey I couldn't stop reading a good book last night - should you be concerned for me ;))

    I personally play a lot more than other people I know who aren't into games. But then I don't spend hours every day sitting staring at the brain sapping box know as TV or drinking vast quantities of alcahol in a pub. For me people who are in to a game and play alot are no different from people who like to read a good series of books or enjoy spending 'too long' on any other type of hobby that takes a lot of time like learning to play an instrument - whatever.

    While we are on the subject of books. Your comments about romances in the game seem a bit misguided to me too. I don't think anyone here really thinks that they are having an affair with a computer character but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the romance and see it as a rewarding challengs. It's not really any different to caring about what happens to a character in a good book, or film, or TV series. Just escapism.

    Anyway, it all comes down to whatever makes you happy and keeping a reasonable balance (even one heavily weighted to games). What I think is clearly wrong is trying to decide for other people what is right for them and assuming that they should do other (what you consider) 'normal' things - hey lets all go and watch East Enders everyone.

    Oh dear, that tunred into a rant. I wasn't wound up by your post really. I guess it is because it comes at around the time when we here of yet another law case in the states where people are trying to blame violence (and all sin it seems) on computer games. God knows how the human race manged to commit any acts of violence before computer games were around huh. I just resent ill-informed people trying to blame society's problems on anything that anyone else enjoys. Before long we'll ban games, films, TV, books, theatre, philosophy, freespeech and anything else that doesn't conform to what our betters tell us to believe.

    Ok Slappy calm down, take some of those nice pills, that's better :D
