How many stars can you get in a Sling proficiency?

    A Fighter can only put upto *** in any ranged weapon.
    Other classes are restricted to ** or *.
    Pure Thieves, even if they can put points in Bows, can only use Short Bows.

    Are you sure? Can't a pure fighter put 5 ***** (Grand Mastery) in a ranged weapon in IWD? (they can in BG2, so...)

    Aww I didn'T know that! Then again never tried.

    I tested this just now, and you can only get 3 with a bow, but you can get 5 with missile.

    I think the only sense to it is that bows are so powerful, they wanted to nerf them a bit. I don't really get it though.

    Slings get strength damage bonus and since it's easy to give 18/00 strength for fighters and they can can be used with shields they are as good as bows already.

    With ***** slings are far superior to bows, except maybe one longbow and crossbow in the game.

    Drawback is that you have to reach level 18 in order to get ***** in two weapons which isn't possible without HoW and you won't reach this level when you play HoW normal without TotL.
