How often do you use the various classes, races and items?

Do you try to use different classes and kits each time you play, or do you stick with the ones you like the best?

Do you use the same weapons all the time or do you try different?

Me?, im trying to use different classes and kits each time. I also try to use different weapons and weapon types. (i stay clear of clubs though).

    My current party:

Totemic druid, human (dual to fighter later): 17,17,17,11,18,18 with scimitar or dagger at the moment.

Barbarian, half-orc: 19,18,19,16,15,3. Using flail and warhammer.

Bounty hunter, hafling: maxed out str, con and dex. (dont remember which hafling got penalty on).
    int: 11, wis: 16 cha: 10
    Using katana and short bows

Bard:Skald, Human: 14,18,18,18,3,18 using long bow or short bow.

Kensai, human (dual later to mage), 16, 18,18,18,12, 3
using katanas (dakkon zerth blade because of its bonusus).

    Cleric\ranger, half-elf: 18\63,18,18,18,18,3
    using mace and shield.

I know, not alot of meele power, but trust me, the cleric\ranger is more than capable enough to fight meelee. my totemic druid will join sooner or later too. And overall this party have been pretty good so far :)

Next time i plan to use the beastmaster and some other weird stuff.

Anyway, i just wondered if you sticked with certain classes and so on or if you tried different ones every time.

I'm always soloing when I play BG2. I've tried various classes, but I tend to stick with the Ranger class and kits. The other ones I've tried have all been melee oriented, since I don't enjoy the art of spellcasting very much.

Equipment-wise I try to vary each time I play. It's fun to try new items once in a while, but my Ranger always get the Shadow Dragon Armor, and because you get that one quite early on in the game, it's not fun. Mainly because I like to search and look for new, more powerful items all the time.

Soloing is pretty cool, but i do take with me npc's sometimes because of all the cool dialogue.

I never solo, I like the NPCs too much....

I also tend to play Thieves, I have a thing for them... :D

I'm not a big solo player either.

For me, there has to be magic; whether it be arcane or divine. I've run various multi-class mages and clerics in probably 90% of my games. Probably my most favorite, though, would be fighter/mage.

I tend to stick to the same classes and weapons. My alignment is either Neutral Good if I want to dual class to thief or Lawful Good otherwise.

At first, I tried to play different classes (Cavalier, Fighter-Mage multi, Monk, Kensai/Thief).
However, my last games had me playing a Kensai/Mage with more or less the same NPCs (Imoen, Jaheira, Aerie, Keldorn/Sarevok, Tashia/Kelsey). He always uses Celestial Fury + Sanchuu when he has kensai abilities or staff of the magi/staff of elemental control/staff of "golem killing" when he has not yet regained his kensai abilities.

IMHO, soloing means you miss at least half the fun of the game, which is the NPC interactions and plots. I'll set up my own multi-player game sometimes to experiment with classes and combinations that are not available with the NPCs. It's fun to play Totemic Druids, Beastmasters, Illusionist / clerics, and other odd combos and kits. That's what makes the game fun!

I agree that soloing the game takes a lot of fun out of the game. That being said, I think everyone should solo at least once to get a feel for it. ;)

Early on I would experiment with different classes and kits, but now I find that my PC tends to gravitate to the same class, especially multiclass fighter/thief. I love to tank, but I usually multiclass to get some bonus abilities. I'm usually experimenting with a new mod or different combo of NPCs to make the game interesting.

I try to experiment with different kits and classes, but I rarely get around to leaving Irenicus' hole with them. This time through, for the first time since I had the game, I used a magic-using character, but I don't know how long this will last. I'll be using a cavalier by the end of the month, I'd think.

I usually stick to the classes I like(mages and thieves in any combination) and about 100% of the times I play elf. As for soloing - no way! My characters tend to be too weak to take down those magic resistant creatures, besides I don't want to miss some good dialoges.

well, seems like most of you like to stick with certain classes.

Heh, you should try different ones :)

I just began to like druids because of the insect spells :) , damn they are useful :p

I actually play every time with different class and I try to play with each race too, though, usually my character is elf or human.

BTW, I'm now playing with an elven sorceress and she just got 9th level spells and she can cast 30 of them! Timestop and three Dragon's Breaths is quite devastating and she can do the same in seven different battles without resting! ^^ God, I love that demi-god's cloak...

I always play a party of four. I first choose my "main character" (usually a manefestation of one of my pen-and-paper D&D characters) and then consider which three NPCs I'll take along to make up a "classic four" (by that I mean: a fighter-type, a thief, an arcane caster and a divine caster), and avoiding any glaring alignment clashes.

As for the main character, I choose different weapons, classes, races each time.

hmm.....i am thinking about which party im going to use next.

    perhaps a dwarven assasin?.
gotta try to vary as said..... :)

i dont mind how my party is balanced as long as i get to try new things i havent tried.

my currrent party have only one meele char (barbarian), but have two archers (bounty hunter and skald), a mage, a cleric\ranger (which can fight melee) and a totemic druid. But the party is pretty good.

So,as said, i dont ming the balance as long as i get to try new things.

one of the new things im going to try is the beastmaster and perhaps the stalker.

well, i'll see how the next party will look like when i get home :)

I sometimes like to build a party completely around one class or idea -- for instance, I once played a game where there were 4 Paladins, a cleric, and a monk -- all LG, all from the Order of the Most Radiant Heart. Sure, I missed the mage spells, and I had to bash open anything I wanted to access, but it was still cool. I've considered making myself an actor and having a group of Bards (with maybe a Swashbuckler or fighter -- the troupe would need a bouncer!) That could be fun too! But again, I'd be missing out on cleric spells and the high level mage spells (not to mention thieving skills other than pickpocketing if I went with no thief either!)

Given that many groups are somewhat insular (soldiers tend to distrust magic, Paladins wish only to associate with good people, etc) such parties make sense! To me anyway, at least from a role playing perspective.

[IMG] I almost always play a mage. My most powerful character is a dual classed berserker/mage. I found the game quite easy soloing with him. I'm level 7/22 and just finished the Underdark. I'm thinking of making a Half-Orc cleric/thief soon though; I think it would be ideal for soloing since you can heal yourself and remove traps / pick locks. It would be a bit weak in combat though...

Not necessarily. You can backstab with Staves. One of the best weapons in the game is the Staff of the Ram. Plus, once you get Use any Item, you can use the Staff of the Magi and others. It all depends on what items you focus your skills on.

EDIT - And be sure to spend as long as you need to to get super-high stat rolls when creating him. To pull it off, you'll need high marks in every stat except Charisma. Ideally (powergaming wise, anyway) you'd need:

    STR: 19
    DEX: 18
    CON:19
INT: 10 or so (going higher means better thief skills)
    WIS: 18
CHA: Doesn't matter - 3 would be fine

You can get this with a roll of 87, which isn't hard. Any higher than that, dump the extra points in INT for a small, but relevant, boost to your theif skills.

    - I played solo several time, mosly with F/M/T, but tried the Assassin also.

    - Multiplayer with the 4 pure class, F, C, M, T.

    - Multiplayer with different races (all 6 was different), elf, gnome, half orc, half-elf, halfling, human.

    - But at first time i made 6 chars as i learned in the BG1. They were mostly specialized for ranged weapons... what a mistake!

The only class what i have no tried is the druid... but R/C is similar...

So did I. Are you sure what you are talking about Death Rabbit? I'm quite sure that only your race and DEX affects on your thieving skills.
