What stats and spells should I take with my fighter/sorc?.....or should I go paladin/wizard?

Is this class even worth it.....I was thinking Magic Mirror and buffing spells would make the figther better then a pure orc fighter.

Do multiclassed wizards/sorcers take a big drawback in damage?

I mean what's the diffrence from a lvl 3 pally/10 sorcs damage with fireball.

    Versus a lvl 13 sorc's fireball

There's a cap on the regular fireball damage, I think it's 10d6 sooOooOo I don't think there is a difference!

Delayed Blast Fireball is a different story ...

Many spells (like Fireball) do 1d6 damage per caster level. These spells also tend to have a damage cap- Fireball's is 10d6. In you example, there would be no damage difference between the two characters.

Pure class mages will break through magic resistance easier than multi-classes (as the chance is level-based). They will be slower at progressing in damage and spell level due to the levels spent as a non-caster. Some spells do the same damage regardless of level, but in general this holds true:
Pure caster damage > Multi-classed caster damage.

A Fighter/Wizard is worthwhile- not as much as in BGII, but it is still a potent adversary. I'm using one in my current game and he is about equal with my Paladin on kills.

wouldnt it be like fighter/wiz or paladin/sorc not paladin/wiz? i mean might as well get all those +saves from the paladin even if you get haste/tenser/etc 1lvl later by being a sorc? (assuming no one has enuff stats to max high str/int/cha/con all at once)

You can't legally be a Paladin/Sorc without losing the ability to progress in your Paladin class, so you'd have to spend half the game as a paladin, and the other as a Paladin/Sorcerer if you wished to employ such a combo. Quite the deterrent if you ask me. A paladin of Mystra, however, may multiclass to Wizard without any penalties (save for those occasioned by your race's Favored Class, of course).

You could always just go Paladin 3/Fighter 4/Sorcerer X, and have a very good combatant and spellcaster. Be a Paladin of Helm and don't start adding Sorcerer levels until you've reached Paladin 3.

I've done a ranger/paladin/fighter/monk once, just don't remember what her main class was. Probably paladin but beats me... She pwned. Didn't finish the game because of losing the only save.

Your fighter/wizard may be a 50/50 or a fighter(4)/wizard(x). I think the latter pays better and possibly even better than a single class wizard if you solo. Might be a good idea to specialise in longsword for Mordenkainen's, along with Improved Criticals. If you're unlucky with scrolls, you can take more Fighter levels, I guess, getting closer to a 50/50 mix.

Ranger is also good for spellswords because it gives you dual-wielding for free if you don't wear armour. And you don't because you're an arcane caster. Some skill combos are quite nice. Remember you don't need to max out on sneaking or other rogue-like skills, so a wizard will suffice, especially with his huge INT bonus, especially if his dex is good. Ranger offers the same BAB as fighter, while less feats and no specialisation, but more skill points and better skills and, of course, the dual-wielding for free.

    @ chevalier

Which have you shown to be stronger?

    Paladin/Sorc?
    Paladin/Wizard?
    Figter/Wizard?
    or that Ranger/Wizard

    And what is BAB?

Base Attack Bonus, check it on your character's record sheet.

And I'm sure Chev's gonna say that the Pally/Wizard was the best huh ;)
