I found out that when you start the game with character that has 18CON my Hit Points are not allways the same.. Does something else beside CON affacts HP, and what is the Min/Max HP for a Ranger at 18 CON ( BG II 89000 XP ) ??
Is there any difference between HP that figter, ranger and paladin gains ?

It depends on what difficulty level you have the game set to. If you are on Normal or Easy, you will always get max HP. But, if you have the difficulty set higher, then you only get max HP for the first level, and D10 for the rest. 89K XP give you 7 levels of Ranger. So with an 18 CON, you're getting D10+4 HP per level. Again on Easy or Normal, that's always 14 per level, otherwise each level gives you between 5 and 14 HP (except the first, which still gives you the 14)
Also, it always seems to me that I've had an extra 10 HP, regardless of what class I use. Not sure why that is, but I always seem to have it.

Well I also have the extra HP, but it is only with fighter classes, and it is their hit die that is added, so in the case of a Barbarian I got an extra 12 HP. This problem only appears with ToB installed. Pure SoA doesn't have it. I agree the term problem might not really be suited with such a nice bonus, but there is another problem coupled to it. If you import a character from BGI then his hit points don't carry over with properly. I once imported a character which had 120+ HP at the end of BGI and he started in BGII with only somewhere between 80-90 HP. This problem occurs every time I import and no I have no mods installed, only ToB with the latest patch.

I noticed the same problem. However, with my game the opposite is true with a multi-classed character. I typically get MORE hitpoints than I previously had when I import a multi-classed character. For example, my dwarven fighter thief (CON=20) had 160 hp at the time he transferred in. At the time he had 80.5K XP in each class.

@Meatdog: You know what? Now that I think more about it, you're right. It's not always an extra 10 HP that I get. It is just an extra hit die (D12, D10, etc.) I just tend to usually play fighter types with my PC, so it's USUALLY a D10. :) Anyone know why Bioware did this?

I only have this since I installed a patch in which they said they fixed some kind of starting HP problem for certain classes. In my case this resulted in the introduction of problems since before that everything worked out quite well. I haven't tested it with ToB installed but without the patch though.

I've often noticed that my character starts BG2 with less HPs than he had at the end of BG1. The first time this happened I figured it was some kind of bug so I used Shadowkeeper to edit my HPs back to what they should be.

I don't have Tob so beware.

Maybe it recalculates your hp when you import your char using your current con as the modifier. This would decrease your hp if your con was artificially high during level ups and it would raise your hp if you had an increase in con.

Again, this is all theoretical since I dont have Tob.

Well the only problem I have with that theory is that the HP should be random. But the same imported HP always gives the same new HP. No, I think it's some kind of bad programming that wrongly converts the BGI data to BGII format.

It sure is annoying though when you finish game 1 with X amount of HPs and then start game 2 with X amount of HPs -20. I quite often save before levelling up in order to get as many HPs as possible per level but this rechecking of the HPs when you start SOA kind of makes the whole thing pointless.

In reference to the latter question:
    Barbarians: d12
    Ftr/Pal/Rgr: d10
    Clr/Drd: d8
    Rog/Brd: d6
    Mag/Sorc: d4

And I do believe in Easy mode you always get Max HP or similar. In Normal it is rolled every time except 1st level, just like D&D I believe, though I'm not familiar with the 2nd Edition ruleset.

Actually, normal mode gives max HP when you level up as well. It's not until CORE that it randomizes your HP gain.

I think it max your HP in BG II but in BG I, even on easy it is random.. at least i think it is..

And as someone said, Barb ged D12, fighters D10 etc..
    plus CON bonus ( i think lvl16you get +2HP,L17+3HP, 18+4HP )
