Every time I try to rest, the program tells me I cannot do so at this time. I've rested before on this run through, but now I'm stuck. I'm doing a multi-player with all characters on my own. This is aggravating! Is this a common glitch?

Yea sometimes that happens to me too. What I have to do is reload the game, either from the last time you quicksaved, or an auto-save, or whatever, and that fixes it.

I've had this happen when you can't get out of 'battle' mode. The fight's over, but the game hasn't realised it.
I find the best way is to leave the area. The game will autosave and you can quit then restart from the autosave game. Now you can get some rest.

I take it this is a problem only in multiplayer games.

But even if it isnt here's one advice:

Go to your BG2 folder and enter "mpsave" and copy save games to your normal save directory. Then you just load it normaly as you would a single player game.
You'll still have complete control over your chars and you wont have to click that much to play. ;)

No, its not multiplayer only..... I've had it happen to me many times in single player, but like Hardcase said, all you need to do is leave the area, then load the autosave.
