    [IMG] So, I just started a PnP group, we're playing in a D&D setting with AD&D rules. I don't like 3d ed.

Anyway, I used to play a lot, but its been 15 years since my last campaign! I also used to play Gamma World and Traveller, too. I'm DM'ing. Another member used to play a lot years ago, and hasn't for some time but has since collected every D&D book and resource you can think of. One other member used to play "Rift" years ago but hasn't played for many years. The fourth player loves CRPGs but has no PnP experience.

Its been really interesting. The most experienced player really knows whats up, and can chill with the pace and really adds something dialogue wise. The "Riff" player is a thief and wants to haggle over every price in the first crappy store the group went into. Only what you see, pal. He also wants to steal everything and pick pocket EVERYONE. I've had to use a little gentle discipline with his conduct.

The CRPG'er is used to a faster paced environment and wants instant gratification. He doesn't understand why you can't kill a room full of giant rats by looking at them at level one, and why it will take so much time to level up! He almost died fighting the rats, a courtesy "prologue" to the rest of the game I added as DM, and almost lost his temper! (Yeah, I took a little from BG/IWD)

Also, I'm really surprised how much attention the newbies need. They want to control whats happenning even when they're supposed to be hiding in the woods out of sight! I really think it shows how important "story telling" and this kind of gaming is and how much its missed from life without knowing it, but thats just my personal take.

Anyway, we have a few months of once or twice weekly gaming to enjoy. I think making iot to 4th or 5th level is possible if I scale the difficulty right. It should be fun. I welcome any advice as this is the first time I've ever DM'd. I had a really good DM when I played so I'm modelling after his style.
