I thought that I was supposed to kill him and so early in the game I killed him. Now I can't figure out a way to get through the doors in the Cooper Coronet that he is supposed to let me through. Any ideas?

If you have and earlier save then reload.
If you don't have one that you can enter the ship at Slums and go to the severs through it and you can enter back of CC by severs too. But you still will not be able to open those doors at CC.

Thanks! I don't have an earlier save because I killed him very early on when I thought that I was supposed to kill him. It wasn't until much later that I realized that I needed him.

I searched all around in the Ship and I freed the slaves but I didn't see any doors into the CC. Is that normal?

You want the room where the stairs are, along with a big stack of crates in the middle. It's where you fight the lead slaver guy and get his key to free the slaves. On the otherside of the crates is a doorway to the sewers. It's pretty straight to get through the sewers to the CC. When you find the stairs, go up.

Thanks for the help. I remember being in that room. Perhaps I missed the door? I'll go back and check.

Note to self - don't kill people unless sure that it is necessary.......

Don't feel bad. In my first game when I rescued Hendak, he says something like, "Assist me if you wish." referring to killing Lehtinan. Of course, being goody-goody, I ran over to the bar and wacked the evil slaver. Then Hendak got annoyed and went red.

Really? I've never had Hendak turn red on me, and I almost always kill Lehtinan. Might be because I always waot until Hendak attacks him. I think if you attack anyone at all before that (except the guards, of course) the entire CC goes hostile.

Yeah, I've never had Hendak turn on me. I let him get a few good shots on Leithen, the I step in and kill him to gew a few extra XP. Then Hendak says something like, "There, it is done. I thank you for your help, but I need you to kill more slavers and get some extra XP along the way." :rolling:

I never thought to wait for him to start the fight, and THEN jump in. I typically just wait for him to kill Lehtinan and pick his corpse clean.

edit: Yay, got the fire agate! It's the little things like this that make my day. :D

I keep my main character near the evildoer and bash him or use magic on him before Hendak gets near him. He has never turned red on me. A glitch, maybe, in some of the games.

Hendak turned on me when I was playing as Druid and had summoned the lion from the statue. Stupid lion attacked him.

    I never bother killing Lehtinan.

Mostly because he is only worth 14 exp, and you get the stuff he drops anyway...and it makes absolutely no difference to the game whether you kill him or not, as long as you help Hendak anyway.

Besides, I'm usually too busy killing his henchmen to reach him in time anyway.

My first game Hendak turned red. Fortunately I was able to exit and reload and try again. Have no idea why he turned red.

So I went to the slaver's ship and went to the room where I killed the head slaver. I located the staircase behind the crates along the southern wall. However, the staircase is blocked from the other side and I can't gain access.

How can I get into the back of the CC? Leithen is dead because I killed him and that staircase seems to be unaccessible.

    Thanks for your help!

What kind of game are you playing? Do you have other mods installed or something like that? I'm totally confused about why the stairs are blocked. I've never outright killed Lehtinan, so I don't know for certain what will work. Anyone else have a bright idea for this?

Nope, no mods or anything. This is my first time playing BG2. I killed Lehtinan and so I've never been to the back of the CC. I got the instructions to go to that staircase (I had already killed the slavers and freed the slaves) but that staircase is not available.

How important is it that I get to the back of the CC? I'm trying not to see too many spoilers so I haven't looked at exactly what happens but I know that I need to get the teddy bear for the little ghost kid.

    kuemper says:
    And then psbroderick says:
So psbroderick, correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying that you already freed Hendak? If that's the case, you should be able to access the secret staircase to the sewers and the slavers' ship. It's behind a secret door on the left side of the corridor that leads to Hendak's cell. You should also have access to the entire CC "backstore" if you already freed Hendak.

Well, I don't know if I freed Hendak or not actually. Lehtinan seemed like somebody who I should kill, so I killed him. Bad move. Anyway, I got to the part where I'm trying to save Jan's little girl and I need to get into the back of the CC again. So I tried to get in via the staircase and via the CC and I couldn't yet again.

Lesson learned. I decided that since this was my first time playing a game like this that I should chalk up my first character as a practice game to figure out how to play. I've started over with a new character and I've already seen lots of things that I missed on my first time through. And I've only just gotten out of the dungeon and into Waukeen's promenade.

    Really great game!
