I need help on Kangaxx!

Man! I thought I might be able to give people good news on this as I did Firkraag! But fighting Kangaxx makes the Firkraag fight seem as it was ages ago and a walk in the park at that!


Kangaxx is tough! I keep getting him to Near Death (the way I get him there is by 2 immediate Rings of Ram from me and Anomen) but as soon as I run up to him to hit him with my +5 Carsomyr (I'm a Paladin--I honestly did not know I'd get such an awsome sword custom for my class. I'm always a Paladin since my Dungeons of Moria days) he straight out kills me with a spell I have no idea about!

Snuffs me out just like that! I have good HP also!

But hints and helps would really be nice right now!

Yeah, his Imprisonment spell annihilated me.
What I found works is the green Protection From Undead Scrolls at first - they make you invisible to him so use them before you open his tomb then have everyone bail to the furthest corner you can and have someone who can Enrage or Berserk (Minsc or Korgan or your PC if you can) hack at him when he transforms. Enraged or Berserk characters are immune to Imprisonment.
I think you have to have him start to talk before you can kill him though so use the Scrolls on all but one of your party before you open the tomb

I prefer the fairly straight-forward recipe of berserker + enrage + mace disruption (+2) + improved haste = Kangy munchies (yum yum)

 

After Kangaxx changt to his demi-lich form, move all your party except your spell-caster(must have "spell immunity" memorised and protected with "death ward" against demi-lich howl, cast the spell, choose school of (abju....) and attack it to draw it's attention only to your spell-caster, then send all the +4 or more weapons you have on it. My usual way to victory.

 

You can always buy one of the "immune to magic" scrolls that are sold in the Adventurer's Shop. Cast it upon your warrior with a +4 weapon (staff of Krynn, I think, it's also bought in the adventurer's shop) and that's all. Ah, sip up a haste potion, otherwise he regenerates as much damage as you inflict to him.

If you want to have fun, as the effects of the scroll last for a long time, go outside and cast a wizar spell. The cowled wizards can't damage you in any way !!

 

first of all head to adventourers mart and by the two "protection from magic" scrolls that ribald sells. Get carsomyr (which you already have anyway) and place those scrolls in your pallys quick slot. Kangaxxx's lich form is a push-over. once he turn into a demi-lich station your party (exept for the pally) in a corner far away from kangaxxx. Have your pally use one of the scrolls and begin whacking on him with carsomyr, soon he will be dead.

also, if one of your chars have melfs minute meteors, have him\her cast it and then attack kangaxxx with it. kangaxxx will ignore that character because he is to busy wasting imprisonment spells on your immune pally.
you dont have to do that though, could always just use the pally, but it goes faster this way.

also note that the "protection from magick" scroll last for 10 turns. so use the second when you have pounded the demi lich form down to badly damaged if you are unsure if the first one last through the entire battle.

 

Is it possible to get the rod without having to fight Kangaxx? Where is it anyway? Is it in his coffin? It's probably something simple that I might have missed

 

Once again, Korgan is the solution here. Equip him with the Improved Mace of Disruption, prepare him with high priest protection spells, let him go berserk when Kangaxx goes "Demi Lich", and it should be OK. When I did it, he had the cape of mirroring too. There was a faint smell of cheese.

 

yes I'm talking about the rod (or half of it) that you need for the Unseeing Eye quest

 

The Unseeing Eye quest (and the rod) has nothing to do with Kangaxx (other than the fact that one of the Liches who has Kangaxx's body parts is in the Unseeing Eye area, but it's not actually part of the quest). You get the parts of the rod from 2 places during the Undeeing Eye quest, but more details would be off-topic and would involve spoilers.

When it turned into demi-lich form, Aarie magic protected my character, Anomen did Death Ward on me, and then me and Anomen sent Kangaxx to the corner with our 2 Ram Rings, then I ran to it (with Speed Boots and Protection from Magic) and melee fought it.

Minsc and Nalia died, but thats ok because I have a rod of ressurection.

Anomen was handling the Efreeti, while I took Kangaxx in the corner, and Aarie hit the game winning jumper from the corner with Melf Minute Meteor!

I have one last problem....

Jaheira isn't even on my screen! That means I can't even ressurect her! What should I do?

 

Reload. Set the difficulty to easy so players can't permanently die. Kill Kangaxx again, and remember to pickpocket his lich form immediately to get another best-ring-in-the-game.

 

I think I need a Freedom spell because I believe she is imprisoned. I must go look for a Freedom scroll.

 

Which is, of course, generally considered to be cheesy.

I'm not entirely sure about this, but I don't think you can get a freedom scroll until you get to the underdark (available from a vendor you meet right near the beginning).

 

If he's got two rings of the ram, then he's obviously willing to use cheese to get through the game.

Why not just have someone go after him with spell turning once he turns into a demilich? He'll imprison himself, you'll get the ring and experience.

Better yet, use one of the circlets from the Underdark to have him imprison himself. You still get the ring.

 

Splunge you're absolutely correct. I looked everywhere I could think of in Athkatla and couldn't find one.

So I had to take Elendrile's advice and reload and get my guys out of the way when myself and Aarie doubleteamed him when he's in demi-lich form.

I won this battle the same way as I did previously (exact same way actually...Minsc and Nalia both died again! I think I'm a slow learner ) but I got Jaheira completely out of Kangy's view this time.

Yeah it is cheesy. But of a truth, as God as my witness, I actually got my first Ring of Ram when I used the Potion of Master Theivery for the first time (for the Maevar's Treachery quest).

I had 3 hours with it, so after doing the task for Maevar, I decided to go places and steal things from people who looked like they had things. So I went to the Government District and got the first ring from Tolagrias there...and this was way before I met Valygar.

And the 2nd one obivously from killing Tolagrias.

I did it cheesy, but not presumptuously!

The problem with party members getting Imprisoned is the main reason I usually try to keep the battle with Kangaxx until after I've done the Underdark. Plenty of Freedom scrolls then.

 

Imprisoned people don't desappear forever; they are in other place as long as his intelligence says; that is, the more intelligent, the less time they are outside.

At least I think it worked so, don't pay me too much attention anyway...

Or am I misunderstanding with the spell laberinth??. Oh, forget me!!.

The spell you are "talking" about is maze. Imprisonment can last forever if no one "free" the victim.
