    Yes the game does have some issues that many people would have liked resolved. Such as the monk avatar. :wail:
    But hey, to say its still using the IE and the fact that it is in the same mould as the original IWD (dungeon crawling hack'n'slash) - its a great game.
    But you can't please everyone. :rolleyes:

    Maybe when/if BG3 comes out, that will be more to your liking.

    IWD2 is less hack 'n' slash than the original. Also why is the half-orc useless? (I would agree that in a powergaming sense the half elf and duergar are less useful but if you want to roleplay, why not?).
    Apart from a few annoying parts (battle squares,8 chambers, maze wood and time loop) I think IWD2 has been better than all the previous Infinity Engine games (It's close with Baldur's Gate 2).

    @monkey,
    You say that IWD2 is better than BG2?On only one point - the 3-rd Edition rules...
    Even if there comes someday BG3 i don't think it'll be better than BG2.See when they made BG1\2, Bioware were just trying what it'll become they didn't expect that it'll be such a success.They worked more for "fame and honour" than money.And they gave theyr best to make good story, intersting battles and so on.....And see now NWN - the so called profesionalls made a D&D Diablo clone so they could attract more customeres\money :eek: (my own opinion no offence to all the fellows who like NWN)

    That's the only thing i liked in IWD\IWD 2 - both games have the same formula - "hack and slash your way to fortune - wooo-hoooo!!!" :D

    PS:Don't get me wrong i like both IWDs, just to compare them with BG series is just not serious :cool:

    I found that in BG2 especially near the end (BG2: TOB was a joke) that every time you came to a big battle you would have to reload at least once, until you had found out the opponents weakness. Every mage would cast contingencies and sequencers the moment you saw them and would be pretty much invincible (dispel magic type spells rarely seemed to take the most powerful buff spells away). I enjoyed the parts where you talked/solved puzzles and minor encounters but wizards and dragons were just annoying. The only other thing that BG2 had over IWD2 was the characters that could join your party. Most of them came from the original BG (almost on a par with IWD2 and better than BG2) and there were never enough of the characters I wanted (good rogues, any mages/sorcerers).

    I don't find IWD2 (well it is becoming more so as I near the end) to be any where near as hack n slash as IWD and it has many unique/funny dialogs depending on char/race. I found it very hard to replay BG2 because it was all the same every time you played whereas with IWD2 it feels like there are so many more options (this may not be the case).

    btw I have completed every Infinity Engine game/addon except IWD2 which I am currently on the 5th chapter and Torment which corrupted *all* my saved games quite a way into it which really pissed me off.

    I realise that the BG series are a (slightly) different style to the IWD series but they have so many similarities, that I think it is possible to compare them. IWD2 is definitely closer to the BG series than IWD was to them.

    IMO the best tank is a Half-orc Fighter-4/Barbarian. It's their unique +2 Strength that gives them the edge.

    Exactly what I thought...
    Although a high level monk might be even better (never played a monk but from the looks of them you could get some very silly stats with a level 30 monk)

    I agree with Earl Grey about the half-orc barbarian - he's an absolutely awesome fighter, especially when using two-handed weapons (to fully use his str-advantage for extra damage). I always felt that the barbarians had a better initiative than pure fighters and that they scored more crits, devastating with a greatsword - I have no hard evidence though :D

    The fighter levels improve combat power but aren't really necessary IMO. The barbarian's damage reduction can compensate for the higher offensive power of the mc fighter-barbarian. Pure barb is more radical and I admit I have chickened a few times, adding the four fighter levels :shake:

    @monkey,
    "BG2: TOB was a joke'
    the real painfull truth - C'mooooon Bioware with NWN that's second game you waste :mad: :mad: :mad:

    As for BG <=> IWD i think everybody likes more one of them - they are simply too different.My brother as a example - a great diablo fan - and just loooves IWD.BG\BG2 was just too slow for him - like he said - "I wanna KIILLL not SPEAK you know"

    "Every mage would cast contingencies and sequencers the moment you saw them and would be pretty much invincible (dispel magic type spells rarely seemed to take the most powerful buff spells away). "

    Already answered this - "You say that IWD2 is better than BG2?On only one point - the 3-rd Edition rules..."2-md ED rules were just now written for such high levels, the original table i have here somewhere is till lvl 20 - a half god level.... Another annoying thing in both games but more in IWD - in just a mounth your party becomes simlply enormous power - lvl 16 monk in no time :mad:

    And you speak for "story" - you really think that IWD series got something like that?I playd BG2 with 4 different classes and the game was enough different to be intresting.Something I can't say for IWD.... One more thing that I miss there - romaces.All my "Heroes" look like pawns all the time - no pesonality.You can kill allmoust the whole targos and the paladin is OK with it?!?

    "...and there were never enough of the characters I wanted (good rogues, any mages/sorcerers)."That's the real life man - Supermen family is on holiday :D
