    [IMG] Hi everyone,

I am always impressed by the expertise of a lot of people posting on these forums..
    WOW, true Baldur's Gate experts!!!!
I mean, I thought I knew the game somewhat, but man, I've got ways to go! :D

Ok, so I was wondering what would be your ideal 6 man (or elf, or whatever ;) ) to play with in BG.. I guess there are so many possibilities depending on your tastes and role playing preferences.

    Personnally, I would use:
    - Dwarf Berserker
    - Half-Orc Barbarian
    - Half-Elf Ranger / Cleric
    - Halfeling Bounty Hunter
    - Human Skald
    - Gnome Sorcerer

I think it combines good tanknig and cunning and should be well balanced...

Just curious to your feedback, I always wanted to try playing an own party game... (are they fun, or do they lose in role play. Can you take on PNCs if you create your own party and have less than 6 in your group?)

Are we worried about Bioware NPCs? Are we concerned with legal classes (your Gnome Sorcerer)?

    Here's my ideal power party:

    Gnome Fighter/Illusionist.
    Elf Sorcerer
    Half-Orc Fighter/Thief
    Human Inquisitor
    Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger
    Dwarven Berserker

Here's my most fun, but powerful party:

    Gnome Fighter/Illusionist
    Jahiera
    Keldorn
    Mazzy
    Imoen
    Anomen

If you want to make your own party (rather than using the game's NPCs), here is my vote for the most powerful party (albeit with the assumption that you have not installed any kit mods):

    1- Human Wild mage
    2- Human Sorcerer
    3- Human Stalker
    4- Half-orc Berserker
    5- Human Berserker-Thief (dual-class)
    6- Human Berserker- Cleric (dual-class)

    My current BoM party:

    Half-orc Barbarian
    Human Monk
    Human Kensai->Thief
    Human Swashbuckler->Mage

The female, dual class party of 5 with rotating NPC slot:

    F 9/D X
    R 9/C X
    C (Lathander) 14/T X
    T (Swashbuckler) 10/M X
    F (Kensai) 9/M X
    NPC of the moment

The stock party I usually take:
    Keldorn
    Anomen
    Jaheira
    Imoen/Jan (when I don't want Imoen)
    Tsujatha
    PC of choice

NPCs add much fun to your game. I only take ONE MP created PC for me and take 4 NPCs.

Bioware NPCs, Keldorn is very powerful, can even solo the (vanilla) game with right equipment with little trouble. Jaheira is the best tank with right equipment, she is hardest to kill. Jan is very useful, as he gets thief HLAs too and has magery to offer as a bonus on top of an already very compotent thief.

Some mod NPCs are worth mentioning. Kelsey adds a great caster, a pure sorcerer to your party, and with masterfully done banters, romance and interactions too! He will romance Immy if your PC is not suitable. (unfourtunately he is not gay, like some other mod NPCs mentioned below.)

Keto is brilliantly voiced and done, near perfect! Only flaw she does not have a romance, though my PC has tried hard. A bard is always useful for support in a party!

Sola is power horse, has a deep romance for everyone, and has the most interesting fights for a mod NPC.

Chloe. I always adore strong and confident woman, she is really cool and will romance Imoen happily! Kensais are truly powerful and destructive. Alternatively you can have sweet boy Nathaniel, another gay kensai, this time for males. I guess Kensai concept will never be the same after these mods! :shake:

Anyway, one personal advice. Magic is powerful in this game. Highest level mages and sorcerers are much more powerful than tanks or fighters nearly in every battle later, at least in my games. Your initial party is low on arcane magic, a sorcerer alone won't have enough different spells for every situation, I always take at least three arcane casters, but that's just me.

    I would take:

-an Elf Wild Mage dual wielding daggers... (Completely CN you know) and resorting to Melf's Meteors a lot (so he can use his dagger at the same time) :shake:

-a Half Orc Barbarian with the Celestial Fury or the Defender of Easthaven (maybe both) and good so he can make the most of Azuredge :deadhorse: (I'm not too keen on Paladins otherwise I would have considered an Undead Hunter instead) :holy:

-a Human Berserker/Druid DC (R/C is too uber for me) :aaa: with a nice Spear or the Druid Staff (the name eludes me) or a simple club and shield combination switching to Slings (the Sling of Seeking presumably) :hippy:

-a Half Elf Blade or Jester (for a change) with Lilacor or the Silver Sword for fun (and Carsomyr later with UAI) and the Tuigan Bow for support and extra damage with offensive spin. :mommy:

-a Human Wizard Slayer/Thief DC dual wielding Belm and Kundane (and the Scarlet Ninja-to later) :aww:

-(and last but not least) a Human Swashbuckler/Cleric DC (I don't like to backstab with blunt weapons anyway :smash: ) who would dual wield Crom Fayr and the Flail of the Ages (!) :pope:

Of course the weapons are for the SoA part of the game (I would have to give some Halberd to the Barbarian and take into account other weapons like the Axe of the Unyielding).

But I like the game NPCs and I would miss the banter a lot so I don't plan on playing this party any time soon (unless I use SK to change the NPCs).

I have to say that I've never played a 6 member party that I made to any appreciable length. The NPCs provided to you make the game so much more fun, even though in every instance you can make a better PC than the NPC. So, for a regular party of 5 NPCs and 1 PC, I would take:

    Keldorn
    Korgan
    Jan
    Imoen
    Jaheria
    PC Sorcerer

If you like Kelsey, then I'd substitute him for Imoen, and make my PC a Ranger/Cleric.

However, a F/T multi-class is my favorite class to play, so for a "favorite" party, I'd take:

    PC F/T
    Jaheira
    Keldorn
    Korgan
    Nalia
    Imoen

you can't get gnome sorcerers? oops
hmm, I'll replace by a simple mage then.
I know my party was a bit low on mages, but I always have trouble coorinating spells, so I feel the sorcerer / mage + Skald will do the job of arcane magic.
The R/C will do druid and cleric.
The bounty hunter would set up traps and lure ennemies to them hehe ;)
And the Berserker and Barbarian with their rages, would be a good anti-mage duo.
as far as NPCs go, I try to use them all a bit.
    Never used Viconia much.
BTW, does Minsc have a quest of any sort?

Minsc only has a quest if you install Unfinished Business, a mod that re-introduces several items that were intended to be in the original game, but didn't make it due to time constraints. Boo is kidnapped, and Minsc has several of his stats lowered in his depression that follows. It's really, really funny some of him comments in his attempt to find Boo.

[IMG] That does sound like a fun quest!
I always felt Minsc was really hurt in BG2 as one of the only char without a true quest. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jan and Viconia don't have quests either other than the initial one to meet them, right?
Anyhow, I never tried mods, but the one you mentionned sounds fun.
    Thanks!

Jan most definitely has a quest. It starts up in the family home in the slums district. Viconia, AFAIK, does not have a quest per se, but she is romancable, which is a quest of sorts.

yes you are correct Aldeth, Jan has one, I remember now - hadn't played him in my party in a long time!
So just Viconia and Minsc without.
I'll try out the romance thing though... too bad she dosen't have a specific quest though.
The best quest for an NPC is probably Valygar or HaerDalis I would say in terms of items, xp and so on.
Currently I'm enjoying Nalia and Amonen's quests - less action for the moment (once the fortress of Arnisse is delivered) but definitely good and long stroylines

Well, technically, you don't need to have Valygar in your party to do his quest. His body will do just fine. And you don't need to take Haer Dalis' in your party at all to do his quest.

These are my favorite NPCs. They are very good in their role, I think.
    -Keldorn!!He's the best!!
-Haer'Dalis. He can do great damage with Equalizer and Blackrazor.
-Sarevok. Good tank, and very good damage.
    (Deathbringer assault!!!! :smash: )

If I remember correctly, Haerdalis actually has a quest (distinct from the planar prison quest) which requires his existence in the party. (Or does my memory malfunction again?)

Unless you have a mod of some kind that adds additional Haer'dalis content, then the Planar Prison is the only quest centred about him. Other than that, the only thing he does differently to the others is attempt to romance Aerie.
