I'm looking for a recommendation for a new series to start and my last two (Shannara and Elminster) didn't get very many positive reactions. I figure it may be easier to just ask for recommendations. The following are authors that I already read and enjoy.

    Jordan
    Sanderson
    Feist
    Farland
    Goodkind
    Drake
Williams- although I only read his memory sorry and thorn series
    George RR Martin- Edited in.
    J.V. Jones- Edited in

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of them now. I'll have to edit later.

Have you given Steven Erikson, Robin Hobb or George RR Martin (beware he is not done and has been almost a decade in writing the next book) a shot? They are the normal recommendations and what I deem as superawesome fantasy. Scott Lynch and Joe Abercrombie are two others that I would like to recommend almost as much and I am even going to toss in Scott R Bakker.

I've added Martin to my list (although he hasn't written a book in so long it was a natural oversight).

Erikson may be a good choice, but keep them coming.

Williams - Has almost finished the Shadowmarch series. They are pretty good, but not great. He took too long between books regardless, but now they are finished.

Erikson - Starts out fantasitc until #6 and then it is pretty much downhill, IMO (but I am holding off on #9 because it supposedly leaves off in the middle. But early next year #10 should arrive and I will read them both together (which should be fun). Each book still has some great moments, but the series is still worth it because #1, 2, 3 & 5 are SO AWESOME.

Hobb - Fine writer but the books seem to drag A LOT in the middle. Still, very original and lots of character development.

I would recommend Erikson. Memories of Ice may be the best fantasy book written in the last 50 years, at least IMHO. A few of us wrote reviews in the SP Book Index several years back.

Roger Zelazny's 'Chronicles of Amber', maybe? It is not fantasy per se (as in, alternative universes, possible worlds and Plato's forms probably served as an inspiration to the cosmogonic and metaphysical model of the created universe), but the setting could definitely be described as a fantasy one.

Hey, I'm currently reading a trilogy by Ty Johnston. It moves right along, good characters, etc. The first book is The City of Rogues, 2nd Road to Wrath, conclusion book is Dark King of the North. I've only finished the first 2. /just started the conclusion. This series is called The Kobalos Trilogy.

As previously mentioned already, Erikson, Martin, Hobb and though I enjoyed The Chronicles of Amber, I felt the tone got a mite too... "casual" when it was Corwin's son's story.

Not exactly what you asked for, but if you want stand-alone fantasy, Eric S Nylund, imho writes awesome stuff. nowhere near as intricate as the initial 3, but extremely entertaining nonetheless. I still count "A Game of Universe" as one of my favorite books. His other stuff such as Dry Water and Pawn's Dream are also good.

And of course, Terry Pratchett's Discworld. If you only read one of them, make it "Night Watch".

Concluding book in trilogy, Dark King of the North

This was a good series of books, the Kobalos Trilogy by Ty Johnston. Kept moving thru the whole series with interesting character development. I think anyone who likes fantasy would enjoy this trilogy.

    Good series

Reading a new series that is developing into a fun read. This series is by B.V. Larson and the first book is Amber Magic. /this sets up the basic premise of the fantasy series. The second book is Sky Magic, then Shadow Magic, Blood Magic and then Dragon Magic. Great collection of characters with various attributes.
