That's because you did all the quests before picking her up. I usually plan to pick her up when I'm around 12th level -- she fits in beautifully at that point. I finish the quests in chapter 6.

If you are soloing (which is the only way I've ever gotten above 18th level), no one will ever be equal to your character.

Also, if your 30th level you must have ToB installed....

she still can make a very good backup mage, and handle all of your thieving locks and traps.

She will advance in levels much faster than the other members of your party, but will never fully catch up.

Who else is in your party? The point of my above post is that she might still make a useful addition.

Yes I do have TOB installed and I am actually lvl 26 but I have a lvl 31 NPC and the others are inbetween that, In the end I just went back and got Yoshimo (cheated a bit) as he was lvl 28 and far more usefull than Imoen as all his thief skills are 200+.

Ps Sorry just realised this should be in TOB forum

She was rotting in jail for helping you fighting Irenenicus so you shouldn't be too surprised that she couldn't get as many XP as your party who preferred experiencing many pleasant adventures over helping her.

Kicking her out because she isn't useful any more for you and leaving her alone with her trouble is the consequent decision.
The followers of pure capitalism are surely very proud of you. ;)

If you're level 30 in the wizard's prison you probably have achieved to get such level in one of two ways. first: You cheated and edited a character. Second: you finished the game once or twice, imported your character and ran the game over an over again. In this fashion, all characters in the game won't be able to keep up with you, not just Imoen, all but in the last stages of Throne of Bhaal. So, try it with a newly created character and Imoen should be about 9th level when you should be at 13-14th depending on class and number of NPCs present in your party. There´s a way of accomplishing 95% of all possible quests in any party and thus getting LOTS of xp. I have a party just at the final stages on the game, who started in Bg2 "SOA" and these are the levels
Dual class Fighter 7/rogue 40, Anomen Fighter 7/cleric 40 Minsc ranger 32, Keldorn paladin 30 Nalia rogue/wizard 4/29 Aerie Wizard/cleric 18/19 without editing or buffs. That's the maximum level I have been able to achieve in all six years of BGing.

Tronak, you're way off base there.

He could have done much of Watcher's Keep, and easily achieved high levels. Adding mods adds more quests and can bump up levels too.

For power gaming reasons, Imoen is too weak.

For role playing reasons (your sister - in jail - getting tortured - largely your fault) you should add her and help her progress.

You can just try that mod that transfer the exp Yoshimo gained to Imoen as well... not too much if it works quite well, seeing it's the first time I'm using it.

I am also very surprised that you could acheive level 30 by the time you reached Chapter 4. Even ackowledging the possibility of doing all the Chapter 2 quests before going to Spellhold and doing Watcher's Keep. (Note, I don't know ANYONE who does the entirety of WK before Chapter 4 - that's actually pretty impressive.) Even so, with a six member party that seems like an awefully large amount of experience points. I usually don't get to the level 30 range until I'm near the end of ToB. In fact, most of my mages NEVER get to level 30 throughout the entirety of ToB.

Errr that's not totally what I was saying. just that character strength isn't everything.

Of course I donot always keep to this and can generally not drop old gloomy Druid chops quick enough. Werebadger by eye!!!!

Tronak - out of curiosity - are you saying these are the levels you hit in SoA? Or by the end of the game, do you mean ToB? Guessing by the levels you have there, there appear to be somewhere between 6 million and 7 million XP per party member. While that's certainly possible to do in ToB, I think that far exceeds the total number of experience points available in the whole of SoA.

I always prefer to take her. She makes a fantastic mage, if you start SOA with a brand new party, exported from BG, even when doing all chapt 2 quests.

Maybe in this situation, yes, but most of the time, I think of Imoen as one of the most powerful NPCs in BG1 and BG2.

She can cover all of your needed thieving skills, and makes a great mage. If you are playing a mage, or pick up another NPC mage in chapter 2, she's an incredibly powerful backup!

I take her for the rp. It's a damn rpg, I want rp! Screw powergaming!

I just like her character in general. She deffinately pawns Yoshimo and Nalia put together, personality wise. Who cares if she's weak, she'll level like 3-4x faster than your other characters. Just gotta baby her a bit.

Imoen is a solid character. She is very useful, OK thief, and good mage. In ToB she also gets Bhaalspawn powers, some ability score bonuses, etc. (if you have the fix for it) My Imoen has a DEX of 20 right now. (with Lum's machine) She also has good comments and interactions, plus she is my only childhood friend, and sister!
