[IMG] I had trouble importing my BG1 character - but figured out a way to do it.

My memory is a tad foggy though. I don't know if I used an export character feature in BG1 or not.

Regardless, there is a folder in the BG1 director called "Characters". Inside this folder there is a number of files - one of which can be the character that you created.

Copy this file to the "Characters" folder in the Shadows of Amn folder and use it to import your character.

Sorry, but I can't remember much more.

Much easier way is to copy your save rather than just character. :)

    1) Copy your save from BG1 save folder to BG2 save folder
    2) Start new game
    3) Choose import character and saved game
    4) Have fun

I almost always play with an imported character. The steps I use are:

    1. Export character file on BG1.
    2. Click "import character" on the character creation screen of BG2.
    3. Choose "character file" from the choices that pop up (I think "saved game" is the other choice).
    4. Find the name of the character you exported.
    5. Click character.

Even when you export your character you need to copy your character file from the BG1 directory to the BG2 directory (which would be step 1.5) since you can't browse your harddisk when importing a character (or if it is possible I haven't find a way to do it)
