On one of the BG2 loading screens it said something like:

'The adventure doens't have to finish after you've completed BG2, you can import your character into Neverwinter Nights'

Or did I just imagine all that, cos I've only just bought the game and can't see any options to import my old character(s)?

I believe that that is one bold claim that they conveniently forgot they ever made. I think that plan went down the toilet when they built Neverwinter Night using different rules (3.0 edition) and different XP caps and different classes, so importing BGII characters no longer made any sense.

No you are not imagining it, there is a BG2 load screen that says that. They had planned to include this feature but it was never actually incorporated into Neverwinter Nights.

If I remember correctly they decided to scrap the idea when they decided to switch NWN over from using 2nd to 3rd edition rules.

There's also the fact you end TOB with a character that can reach level 40 (especially if you're a Thief), and while having an epic-scale expansion was fine, it's hard to imagine how much of a challenge they could have put in NWN if everyone was running around with level 40 characters as well.

Yes, they did say this, one of their mad claims, rather like politicians...

But, anyhoo, there were many other different things that they changed, like the animation for Magic Missile, for instance, in an early edition of the game, the magic missile spell looked exactly like the one from the Black Isle series of games, quite good actually.
