Soon I'll start playing Baldur's Gate I + Tales of the Sword Coast. What I want to know is: when I'll import my character in Baldur's Gate II, will I be able to chose a kit? Say, I begin BG1 with a fighter progicient in long swords. If I import him in BG 2, will I be able to make him a Berserker and redistribute his proficiency points say in... two handed sword? In other words... What happens when I import a character from BG1 to BG2 and what doesn't happen? Please, help.

Yeah, you can choose any kit applicable to your original class, and you can redistribute your proficiency points however you please. The only limitation for imported BG1 characters is that they can't be barbarians, monks or sorcerers (or half-orcs, I think?).

You might want to try BG1 Tutu mod wich allows you play BG1 in BG2 engine. So you can start game as Berserker or any other BG2 kit you like all the way from Candlekeep to the Throne of Bhaal.

If you're interrested search forums for Tutu to find out details.

There are some other mods as well, from what I've read so far. Another one would be The Big Picture, I think. I may be wrong, I usually don't play mods... Which mod is the best for this? And, if I start BG1 Tutu, will I be able to also start BG1 with a BG2 specific class (i.e. Monk, Sorcerer, Barbarian)?

I haven't tried The Big Picture so I can't tell wich is the best.

Yes, BG2 classes are available also. IIRC you can even choose kits to BG1 NPC's, for example Imoen can start as swashbucler or any other thief kit you prefer.

Bg1 is playable as is. There is no need to install tutu.
The only mods I would install are the maxHP and successful scroll scribing parts from the Ease-of-Use mod.

Keep in mind that some kits have additional alignment restrictions.
If your fighter is chaotic you cannot change him to kensai.
If your fighter is lawful you cannot change him to berserker.

I'll suggest using BG tutu (Easy Tutu) which you can find here on SP (5th choice from top to bottom), since it will use the BG2 engine on BG1 and TotSC

    1. It will let you use any kit from BG2 on BG1
    2. Better screen resolution and any option available on BG2

I would also recommend Tutu from PPG (the link above eventually leads to the mod's homepage) over BGT. Easy Tutu is a new installation method a user named Macready created recently, and it does seem to result in fewer confused end-users. :)

I'd also recommend Easy Tutu, since it makes things much easier. I tried to in install the normal tutu, but I just ended up with corrupted files and that kind of thing. Then, I tried Easy tutu, and everything worked perfectly. The one bad thing is that with Easy tutu you can't chose kit's for the NPCs, but you can change that later with Shadowkeeper. (copy the save into the BG2 save directory, then use Shadowkeeper, or just set the paths to your BG-tutu directory
