    Wow,

Just made an Assassin dualing 2 short swords and thought i'd d/l the Improved Thief Stronghold mod.

    OMG

The Improved Mae'Var battle is nigh on impossible! He, is actually a VERY good Thief/Mage himself. This, ordinarily would not be a problem, however, his cohorts are the problem. Assassins. Very good assassins, ladened with Invisibility Potions and Health Potions.

They backstab you to buggery and turn invisible - down a health potion - backstab someone - rinse and repeat.

All the while, Mae'Var and his well hard Priest of Cyric are boosting them with hastes and god knows what else.

I thought "ah... ill kill the odd one or two, dissapear up the stairs, rest, and come back"... nope, not hap'nin, the mod blocks the stairs off till Mae'Var is killed.

I don't even get to plan any kind of battle plans, because, as soon as i enter his lair, they come running straight at me, all boosted up and invisible until they backstab me to buggery.

I am at the point of leaving this quest till I am at a high level, and coming back. Now naturally, I dont want to do this as i want to establish my stronghold ASAP.

My party is currently lvl 9-11 and consists of:

Me - Assassin - dualing Short Swords
    Korgan - Axe - Shield
    Minsc - 2H-Sword
    Jahiera - Spear/Staff thing
    Yoshimo - Short Bow
    Edwin - Sling

Any ideas on tactics to win this battle?

    Cheers guys!

Beat them at there own game use potions of invisibity yourself. I don't think Mae'var has true sight, though if he does its only one. It also gives you time to heal, and backstab.

Also if you can find any potions that give resistance to fire, throw a couple of fireballs. And if you do manage to get your whole party hidden use skull trap as well, since both of these spells hit, even when enemies are hidden.

Does Jaheira have insect plague yet? very handy.

I would've used True Sight or something like that and hid Yoshi and your char. You're assassin could probably take one out as soon as detect invisibilty came on. Then take Jaheira and draw all the Assassins out with Ironskin, or with Edwin and Stoneskin. Use of Stinking Cloud could disrupt the cleric and Mae'Var. Any spell with an area of effect can still hurt invisible enemies, so you could use those to no end.

Mae'Var also uses a cloak of non-detection (or spell immunity:divination, can't remember) so he will remain invisible even with True Sight. Your only method of harming him is area-effect spells, or waiting until he runs out of invisibility potions. ;)
