This may be well-known already, but I didn't see it posted in any of the "tips and tricks" threads:

One well-known way of getting infinite gold at level 1 is to find someplace free to rest and have your cleric cast as many Bless Water spells as he can, then sell them all to the Church or Burne for 8-ish GP each (depending on Appraise skill). This technically works, but is a huge hassle because of all the resting and spell-casting, plus the fact that holy water doesn't stack means it takes ages to sell. In practice, this method isn't feasible for more than a few hundred GP.

A much better and easier method is to take a wizard in the party and someone who has a reasonably high Appraise skill. (A wizard with a Raven familiar can get Appraise-9, even if you don't have a Rogue.) It turns that that he can scribe level-0 spells like Acid Splash for 6 GP and 0 (ZERO!) XP, and sell them for 9 GP apiece. Plus, scrolls stack and can be hotkeyed. So just map "Scribe scroll" to a hot key, leave it on Acid Splash, and stand there in front of Burne's assistant scribing scrolls until you run out of gold. Then sell them all for a 50% profit and start scribing some more. Continue until you have enough gold for what you want right now.

This effectively removes gold as a limiting factor from the game, since you no longer need to spend XP to create gold. For me personally, it means I will have no qualms about cheating in 50,000 GP for myself in the console at the beginning of the game in order to save myself 17,000 clicks, since it doesn't actually change the gameplay.

Ha! That's funny because I was just thinking about that last night when I saw that my Wizard could scribe cantrip scrolls for 0 XP and a few gold. I was wondering how much I could sell them for :)

Actually, it does change the gameplay because to get the gold legitimately, you'd have to do 17,000 clicks. Your reasoning is kinda like saying that, in BG2, you can defeat an enemy by doing Ctrl-Y in order to save on actually, y'know, clicking on the enemy a few times. :)

A better analogy would be to reroll for an hour in BG2 to get a good roll on your stats or to just give yourself the stats in SK. Or Ctrl+F8 I think it was. And infinite money in BG is at least a lot easier. All you need is a potion and a gem.

Coming back to ToEE, assuming around 100 clicks per minute, 17000 clicks would take roughly 3 hrs to do. If you put in that kind of time to get 50000 gold, I think you deserve it, exploit or no.

The thing is, money is 'cheap' in ToEE so you don't really need to do that anyway. By the end of a typical campaign you are very, very large. ("Mo money, mo money ...") :p

Yeah, I tend to agree. The only time in the game that I ever remember hurting for cash is in the first 2-3 levels. After that the most expensive items you ever have to buy are Masterwork items - heavy armor, especially - but those you only have to buy once, and can easily make up the deficit with all the loot you find.

Now for a game like Dragon Age, I could certainly understand using such a tactic - as single items in that game will easily drain your entire bank role even at higher levels.

    All of you are low-down, good-for-nothing cheaters....:D

Seriously, finding these little game-engine easter-eggs is part of the fun. Though I never utilize a single one, that would be cheating...

Naw, because the enemy gets to click back. This is more like playing the Magic Candle (ignoring the time limit) and setting your PCs to work as carpenters/etc. for 1000 days. It's actually pretty fast and easy to earn 1000 GP manually this way.

It's interesting (and good) to know that money isn't a problem later on. I was worried that Stoneskin would be too expensive to cast, since up through where I've played (barely starting the Temple) gold has been pretty meagre except for the odd magic weapon that you can sell. Getting 30 platinum pieces off a dead body is a cause for celebration, and in this context the ability to quickly and easily earn 300 GP through scribing is a big deal. (Also, I kind of want to create an army of skeleton warriors using Animate Dead.)

Me personally, I enjoy using tactics and perhaps a bit of luck to maximally deploy a fairly crappy little party and accomplish things that are perhaps slightly outside their comfort zone.

It is just more fun to have a white knuckle fight in which 5 Level 2 and 3 level 3 characters (who have about 2 magic items between them) +barely_ defeat a Hill Giant (or something on those lines). Than to simply press a key (once, or repeatedly) get a bunch of gold -> buy awesome swords of death = win.

But thanks for posting. We all have moods/stages where we want to take advantage of a loophole/oversight in the game design like this.

Actually having tried out this 'exploit' I find its not actually _that_ exploity. Without a really high Appraisal you don't get that much of a profit.

Also one serious limitation on it is, if you Wizard dies, this gambit becomes inaccessible until he gets out of the post-resuscitation XP hole ;)

so has no one done the Jaroo/ Baseline Disable Device rogue infinite money & Xp? just go to Jaroo with your party and send the rogue to his chest and search then put cleric ready to heal at top of room then do a Hot Key for Disable then have Rogue use it on the chest. for the first couple of levels it is slow. do not add skill points to DD and you can gain all of the XP you want. take a small party like 4 and rack up xp. Take each set of NPC's from the INN as you can get them killed at the moat house and take there stuff untill only wizard/sage is left. pick up the sage/wizard at the Inn use him for scribe scroll then sell them to Burne make sure you transfer any scrolls created by the NPC to your best Appraise skill PC or else the NPC will sell off them himself. At a low level he Knows Cone of Cold and can scribe it.
