    ok i am at the end of baldur's gate. I have done like EVERYTHING there is to do except free duke eltan and fight seravok. im really iching to finally beat this game so i dont want to go to eltan (cant see how its my problem anyways) when i fight seravok my character dies for no reason. he doesnt even have to get hurt to die. he just dies for no reason. i put him upstairs + invisable once (he wasnt toached-there are no enimies up there) and he just died while the rest of my party fought seravok! whats going on?

    Have you completed the quest to find an antidote for the poison/geas that's put on you when you enter the central area of Baldur's Gate?

    I'll assume you're talking about in the Duchal Palace since you said "upstairs". You have to save either Belt or Liia from the dopplegangers; if they both die, you get insta-killed.

    Hmmm... Out of weirdness do you have the Diary of Sarevok? ... what a stupid question i know because you can go upstairs.... well if you don't have the Diary of Sarevok you die instantly.

    Or Belt (what a funny name) and Liia died.

    IIRC, the getting poisoned quest was unavoidable. The two guys (Merek and Lothander?) walk up to you when you enter a certain part of the city; the central part that you need to get around. :hmm:

    Having both the Duke and Duchess die is a very bad. :lol:

    @kuemper:
    No, I think only Lothander shows up near the tents in the middle section; you must first be confronted by Marek and Lothander in the northeast section (east of the wall). But oddly enough, you don't actually get poisoned (it sets a variable) until you talk to Lothander near the tents.

    As Fel has said, if you're in the ducal palace you're NOT at the end of the game. In this part you must keep the either the duke or duchess alive (or both). Sarevok will flee in this encounter (damn coward) and you will need to track him down for the final battle.

    Isn't it possible to just avoid this sector of the city?

    I don't think so... It's been a while since I've done this, but isn't that where the entrance to the Undercellar is?

    There are a couple of different ways into the Undercellar, the front entrance (the one you're describing) is also in a different part of the same screen, IIRC, and since that sector is separated by a wall, if you enter that way you'll never meet the assassin anyway.

    I know there's an entrance into the Undercellar through the sewers also.
