Interesting occurrence using the Daystar Sword.

Yesterday I was playing my way through Firkraag's Dungeon area when I came upon a group of six vampires. After a couple of tries, I eventually just had Minc go into their area alone, with improved invisibility, and had him use the sunray ability on the Daystar sword. I couldn't believe the results! I killed 5 of the vampires outright, and put the last one into Near Death. The surprising thing was how much damage registered to the vampires. I hit 3 of them for 1050, 1052, and 1045 HP and the other 2 were over 90 points! That's what I call a powerful sword! Anyone else have this happen against undead using that weapon?

Yes, that's exactly what's supposed to happen. If the undead creature doesn't make a save (vs. death I think) it is destroyed. That's when they take over 1000 hp damage... The ones that make the save take the standard damage as documented in the sword's description (though perhaps Vampires are more susceptible due to their aversion to sunlight).

Daystar is cool. When I entered Firekraags dungeon first and entered the vampire room they beat me up/ level drained me pretty much.
Reloading and lacking daystar and the undead-killer-mace, I had formed all my ranged-weapon fighters in the doorway and entered their room hasted, backstabbed one of them and left it, cueing them into my ranged weapon fire, standing in front and holding them on a distance with flamethounge.

This tactic worked fine on the werewolves there too. However, daystar makes the whole vampire business significantly easier.

She is defintely nice to have around...Especially for that. The Daystar sword rocks against Vamps! But I guess that's what it's supposed to do.

I tried it against Bodhi in the Gauntlet in Spellhold- she must make her save all the time, because it it didn't do all that much to her. Minsc+Daystar+Dualed with Mace o' Disruption +2+Protection from draining = kickass vampire killer!

Better than Dr. Van Helsing even! :D

[IMG] Yep, Dr. Van Helsing never even thought about TURNING vampires rather than killing them.

Where is the Daystar anyways? Is it a long sword, bastard sword?

It's in the Gate District as part of a Lich's stash. I don't remember what type of sword, but I think it was a longsword.
