Iquog 's password

In chapter 1 in the caves there's a red goblin called Iquog (or something like that) who ask me for a password, i don´t have the password and he attacks me, can i kill him or this may cause problems later.

Or talk to the bigger dude - Yquog - on the level below, he will give you the password if you accept his mission - the password is "Xvim".

There are two passwords in the goblin caves. The 'chimera' password you get from the little goblin Pondmuk and is used to get through the door on the first level.

The password 'xvim' you get from Yquog, also on the first level. This is used to get passed Yquog's minions (the red goblins) who are guarding the goblin Kruntur and his clan on the second level of the warrens.

I strongly recommend going back to the first level and speaking with Yquog to get the password - there's major experience for the quests invovled! Take a look at the Sorcerers Place IWD2 online walkthrough for details.

 

There is a lot of experience involved in the quest, but there is no other long term problems with killing all of those critters. However, four hardened fire trolls and a bunch of barghest whelps are no laughing matter. If you do kill them all, you might break even on the xp. Of course, you could do the quest *then* kill them all, if you are so inclined.

 

I did try that method, just to see how it worked out. You don't break even in the xp if you kill them all - assuming you survive of course And surviving it is definitely *not* easy. For all the resources (healing potions, resurrection at least once, etc) that you use-up in following that path, it just isn't worth it.

 

Also by doing the quests you get two magical items, one is a magical shield and the other is a magical weapon, they are both random but if you save before accepting the reward and then reload you will get a different reward each time. I got me first +2 weapon there. I managed to kill the red thingies on the second floor too and they were not that hard (after I loaded for the 3rd time that is) I remember I had at least two 5th level mages (or something like that) and I used a lot of summons which made the battle real easy

 

It is definitely best to go ahead and do the quest for Yquog and get the experience. I also received some random magic item from the goblin Kruntur when I returned his bracers. Once you return the note to Yquog and he gives you your rewards, you can save your game and then kill him and his minions in the first cave. You get a random magic item (1st time I got another magic shield, second time I got a mace +1 goblin slayer +2d6 vs goblins) and some gold, plus the xp for killing Yquog is all right. If you do not kill him now you will have to fight him in chapter 6 unless you can scare him off (this is what the cat and human corpses are suppose to be for) for an xp bonus. Once you kill Yquog on the 1st level the next time you come into contact with his minions on the second level they attack. Be sure to watch your back because both groups will attack, so as soon as you start to fight one group the other will start coming after you from the other side of the cave.

To hit both Yquog and his minions you need to have magical weapons equipped and I want to say that some of his minions did resist my piercing damage. Either way both fights were kind of tough and I had to reload once or twice, but with the right preparation spells you can beat him. Also, when fighting Yquog it may help to drop a web spell on him and his goblins first before you attack and make them angry. It will not stop Yquog but it may hold up a few of his hordlings… You can also wipe out the goblin Kruntur and his clan on the second level for some gold and a random magic item (I got a composite longbow +1 or +2).
