Irenicus won't die in the final battle, and other problems

I'm right at the end of the game at the final battle with Irenicus, but there are a few problems. First off, even though I'm Chaotic Good and have a Popularity of 20 (Heroic), and haven't done anything evil, I get my alignment changed to Chaotic Evil. Second, Irenicus doesn't summon the four demons he usually does. Thrdly, and most important of all, he won't die. He just stands there, not even attacking anyone, and does nothing while my party hack and slash him. The worst I can do to Irenicu is get him down to Near Death. I've tried Ctrl+Y, but that doesn't kill him. I've tried numerous spells to try and kill him, but nothing works. I've got a few mods and such installed, but they've never done anything like this. What could have caused things to change so suddenly for no apparent reason?

The alignment thing is because u did something that was evil in the trials (if u do just ONE evil thing ull turn evil) the other thing i dont know.. do u got mods?

 

Even if it was that, he would have turned Neutral Evil, not Chaotic Evil. As I recall, someone else had the same problem recently; you may want to search the forum for their thread to see if they got a solution.

A modlist might also help.

 

The only major mod I have is The Darkest Day. I've also got the EaseOfUse mod as well, but I've never had this problem at this stage of the game with those two together. I'll try looking for that other thread you mentioned. Thanks.

 

Regarding the invincible Irenicus, I think that a certain sequence is supposed to fire there (probably script related), where Irenicus' power goes amok. You've may have smacked him too much around, so that he got stuck in a script "loop", and the right block never fires correctly (thus triggering the end sequence with Jon). Think Trolls that won't go down (sometimes you got to stand back on those too). Have you had this happen to you multiple times? You can ctrl+y him because you're not supposed to kill him "propper", and the only other way to kill him is to level drain him (or get his stats lowered) below zero.

I know that there's a mod out there, which alters the alignment changes, but iirc it only adds some neutral options, which would then again lead back to your game being bugged somehow.

 

I'd like to kill Irenicus to finish the SoA part of the game correctly, but if I can't, how will this affect my party when I carry it over into ToB?

 

Well, if you do it by importing your saved game to ToB, then it really won't seeing it is the final save (before the fight in which you cannot kill the critter) that is uses.
So my recommendation would basically be that you import the final save, and start a ToB game (technically you have beaten him, he just won't shoot off that final sequence).

Besides these, have you experienced any other bugs during you game?

 

Nothing major, no. Tashia is in my party and a couple of times some conversations ended with an all caps sentence about not being able to find a line, but I've had her installed, though not used her, in previous games that have run just fine.
