Is EE balanced with kits, proficiencies, and new abilities in mind?

As title. Obviously original BG had no kits, weapon styles, or various BG2 abilities like Set Trap or Detect Illusion or spells such as Spook or Armor of Faith. Just wanted to know if EE has upped the difficulty (or added new items) to compensate.

There are new weapons and you still choose what difficulty you want to play at.

The difficulty on normal certainly seemed easier to me than in the original version, but as per Sorvo, you can still ramp it up if you wish. I don't think that any balancing has been done content-wise.

I've seen unenchanted basic weapons, are there also magical variants?

Several kit bonuses/abilities and a spell or two were toned down so they didn't break the game at lower levels (like the Totemic Druid's spirit animals) but outside of "fixes", yep. Most of the stuff from BG2 remains unchanged.

A lot of enchanted items were introduced in EE.

Of course, they're not balanced. All they wanted was to add new toys. It's why I've been opposed to any tutu mods since their conceptualization. It's a fun idea to port a game forward, but without consideration of the content, it loses the original feel and flow. OH did virtually nothing to address this issue.

Still, it's a necessary evil for the sake of progress. Install SCS and call it a day.

    Thanks for the tips y'all.

Might add that certain things are also harder now because of the split in thieves skills and weapon proficiency.

Thieves skills have been rebalanced as well so that stealing from certain characters and shops needs a higher amount of points in the skill before you can even attempt so/have success.
If your skill is too low you will get a message saying 'this character does not have any items that can be stolen by a thief of your skil' (paraphrasing)

Is it then guaranteed success if you do pass the skill level?

No, as far as i know you still run a chance of getting caught and your target going hostile as a result.
For example, you need to have a 95 in the pickpocket thief skill in order to even attempt to pickpocket Drizzt's swords and a 50 to pickpocket Algeron's cloak.

I figure the main reason they did this was to avoid save scumming, most people would just leave pickpocket as is and just save the game before attempting to pickpocket, and reload whenever they failed.

From what I remember, this has always been this way. The only thing they changed was they externalized the minimum skill values required for each slot.

I'm pretty sure i was able to lift drizzt's swords with a lot lower pickpocket skill (~50) before this change, so i'm sure they changed those minimum values themselves as well.
There's plenty of potions of master thievery to pick up in the game though, so you can alwasy save those for when you do ned to boost your PP value. (teehee, peepee. :shake: )

I think the values were lowered actually, but yeah, they were somewhat adjusted. Point was that the system works the same way it always has.
