Is it possible to dual weild two Holy Avengers?

    ...and gain the MR twice (in HoF)?

    I've got this Drow Fighter4/Ranger3/Paladin3/Monk3/Cleric17 idea brewing. She'd be tough to get going, but also near impossible to kill (max DEX, CHA, WIS).

    I guess you could, I haven't done it.

    I have one question though: why 3 levels of ranger? If it's for free dual wielding then it's a bad idea and it would be far better to spend two feats for this and save the levels for a better class.

    The above character idea is already out... the stats are spread too thin to be a very effective character.

    I guess I was adding the Ranger for the TWF feats, but looking back, I think the only way the Ranger class makes sense from a powergaming perspective is to add only 1 level.

    You can, and you get both Spell Resistances, but SR maxes out at 50, so it's pointless to do this on a drow for SR purposes. Also note that Spell Resistance and Magic Resistance are two different things. Spell Resistance is a chance to completely null the effect of a spell, whereas Magic Resistance is damage reduction to spells that do magic damage, such as Magic Missile and Horrid Wilting.

    Many (all? I haven't tested this much) items which give MR also give an equal boost to SR, though it is not listed in the item description. This is handy for spell resistant characters, though I usually find some better item to use in the slot.

    Such items almost always give minor (1-3) amounts of MR and SR. Exceptions:
    Orrick (chapter 6) sells a ring that gives 4 MR.
    The HOF version of the above gives 5 and can cast a crappy spell.
    The Club of Immolation (random drop, good luck finding it) gives 5 and is a pretty nice weapon besides.
    There is a heavy armor from the duergar in HOF that gives 5, but is otherwise a pretty awful choice (like most armor in this game)
    "Baron" Sulo's Hook, AR5011-HoF. 5 MR. Light weapon, good in the offhand, especially if you never melee. The only problem is that then you can't use ranged weapons.

    MR items stack, so collect them all and become immune to magic missiles. Fun!

    The best MR items are the Potion of Arcane Absorption (+2 MR) and the Potion of Magical Resistance (+1 MR), because they don't use up item slots. I always give them to my best tank, for the SR boost. The item list also includes a Potion of Aura Enhancement (+1 MR), but doesn't list any way for it to drop.

    The holy avenger swords give a boost to SR, but no MR. SR is much more important anyway.

    IIRC, SR is bugged for the drow. I discovered it when soloing a drow monk and my SR increased past 50...with the DK2 I raised him to 30th level and had a SR of 81. The DG monk I soloed topped out at 50 SR.

    You could always go with 5 levels of monk if you only take one Ranger level.
