    Hey whats up everyone?

I'm currently playing BG2:SoA right now, but recently purchased a copy of ToB (one of the last ones to get it in a box by itself! They only sell it up here in combonation now with SoA)

and I'm wondering if, when I get to start playing ToB, will I be required to boot one of my party members out and get Sarevok?

I don't really like Sarevok. Is he mandatory to play the game? I like my party the way it is, and I don't wanna take out someone I like for someone I hate ya know?

No, while Sarevok is a fairly decent addition to the party you do not have to include him. I normally don't as I tend to have become a little attached to the members of my party after having them for so long.

No, he's optional just like all the other NPCs. You should try him out in a later game though as he does add a lot to ToB and is really powerful.

Thankfully, no one is mandatory -- not even Imoen. It would be tough for a totally good party to take Sarevok, after all!

[IMG] Sarevok is , IMO, the best NPC fighter in the game, with Korgan following closely behind.

Like what the others have said, he's not mandatory, but he's a damned awesome addition to any intelligent (i.e, not good aligned) party.

On a related topic, do the CDs that come with the new SoA/ToB combo have all the crap that was painted on the CDs that came with the first release of SoA? It would be worth the $25 to get rid of that horrid sound from those unbalanced CDs trying to spin up and read, or the crashes because the drive can't read or find them! And before you ask, this has happened in my last three CD-ROM drives.

[IMG] Sarevok isn't mandatory, but [SPOILER! you can change his alignment, and there is a lot of Roleplaying / Dialogue / Story elements which are enhanced because of him.

    Spoilers con't...

If that's your goal, download Ascension. The dialogues that can potentially change Sarevok are random banters, meaning you might not have an opportunity to change his alignment. With Ascension, the key dialogues are triggered by events, so you will always have the opportunity to change his alignment.

    [IMG] That's way cool!

Can you change his alignment within the purchased game? Or are Mods (and/or such like) neccessary?

Besides the fact the he is also the ONLY NPC that has the Deathbringer Assult, he also has:
    - Some pretty funny dialogs
    - Awsome fighting skills
    - And a really cool voice pack :p

So technicly he isn't mandatory, but can you afford to NOT let him join? :rolling:

As people have said, he's not 'really' mandatory. But to me he's a must still. I think I've passed him by only twice (the first time I went to ToB with a full party from SoA, and the second time when I just wanted to see the endings of some characters I had with me all the way from SoA), and that's little considering how often I've played ToB.

As was said, he's an amazing fighter, one that really feels like one of the most powerful bhaalspawn, not just another NPC. He is more charismatic than any other NPC in the game, having incredibly good dialogue text-wise, and perfect voiceacting in terms of acting skill and type of sound. And besides think it as he says it, brother and brother/sister, who could stop you? 3 slots from my 6 people party are always reserved for the protagonist and his/her siblings. To me the dialogues and feeling when having both Imoen and Sarevok fighting together on your side is something so magnificent that I'm rarely able to give up the idea.

You don't have to take on Sarevok, but I would do so just to kill him.

Spoiler - sort of : From a role-playing point of view, there are Bhaalspawn everywhere. If you don't rise to the top, then one of the others will. And if you can recover Sarevok, then perhaps others could too. No, for me all the Bhaal spawn need to die. That includes Sarevok, and Imoen, and once they are all dead, then me too.

The dialogue that leads to his alignment change is in unmodded ToB, but it is random so you may not get the opportunity to change his alignment. If you install the Ascension mod, the key dialogue will always occur, meaning you will always have the opportunity to change him.

    [IMG] Thanks Camdawg.

Trydan that is a really interesting role-playing point of view.

For me, I chose the Paladin route (though I've always been a paladin, for like 7 years now, since I started playing computer DnD games), like choosing to be good-hearted, and learning how to fight, so when my evil heart would try to take over, I would know how to battle it (if I know how to kill dragons, surely I can dicipline my own self!)

    Your storyline is very intriguing!
