On a rare occasion Isair and Madae do not buff themselves before the last battle...does anyone know why?

Probably a glitch with some script not activating properly. IE games in general don't like having too many scripts going off at the same time, and some of them occasionally get skipped. Happens quite a bit with BG2 as well.

So load and try again if they appear unbuffed. It won't be fair! ;)

Most of the time I've faced them, they've always been buffed. During the battle they will also cast more ... a lot more, although sometimes Isair just goes full on offensive and tears everything apart, in the process he forgets about casting anymore buffs!

What buffs do they start with normally?

Madae - Shield, Greater Shield of Lathander and an elemental barrier I think?

Isair - Seven eyes, Frost shield and aegis?

Without those I don't think they would pose much of a threat..

    Thanks for the reply Ziad.

Silvershield, you're right, they don't pose much of a threat without their initial buffs. Madae starts with Divine Shell, Iron Skins, and Protection from the Elements...maybe more - those three are the only buffs listed in the dialogue window. Isair starts with Fireshield (listed in the dialogue window), Seven Eyes, and atleast one other.

^Yes they start out with those buffs normaly. Then Isair also loves going Improved Invisible for sneak attacks, and he creates Black Blade of Disaster ! (scary, be thankful that their DCs are incorrectly low!) Madae keeps Mass Dominating , summoning nasty monsters, occasional Harm (again buggy so its DC is low!) and ofcourse, the ever dreadful Blasphemy!

Use a protection from magic scroll on them, this will both totally dispel their buffs and also will cause them not be able to cast their scary spells. And without their spells they are easy pickings, not still easy as a goblin pie, but doable nevertheless...
