Isn't there a way to start BGII w/ all of your BGI stuff?

I thought I remembered hearing some way to get all your stuff into BGII. Something about pausing and dropping all your stuff, but I can't be certain.

If someone has the way to do it, please LMK.

    TIA

On the black screen, before Jon starts talking to you, hit spacebar. The menu bars pop up, you enter your inventory, and set all your gear on the ground. Also, if you are a cleric, magic user, or wild mage, now is the time to fill your spell book--when you gain control of your character, you'll have your spells memorized and ready to go.

[IMG] At the beginning of the game just before your character groans you are supposed to be able to pause the game with the space bar and depress the "H" key to bring up pannels and from there you are able to throw your gear on the ground.
It has never worked for me. Ever.

It worked for me just like how Eric Xanthus said. I have only done it once but I had no problem doing it.

I'll give it a shot. I hope to finish BGI this week.

If you can't get it to work, there's a small hack on SP that will do it.

Alternatively, run in multiplayer mode, once the opening sequence has finished and you're in the game proper you can delete the main character and re-import again. Save the game and move from mpsave to save directory if prefered.

I don't have the game installed, so I can't verify this, but I seem to recall that in the powerusers file there were some instructions on settings for the baldur.ini file that would allow you to keep your BG1 items. Is that the hack to which you referred, Tal?

No, it's Dorner's override hack that does it.

Question: is it overly cheesey to do this? Or do you get enough good stuff soon enough that it doesn't matter?

The way SoA is built, you can get some fairly good items right off the bat. It doesn't take you as long to accumulate an equal or better cache of weapons that you had in BG1.

Of course, there are some items that will take you longer to gather, but it is fairly easy to regain your better ones.

I personally think that it is horribly cheesy because it will give you an edge over the beginning of the game, but to each their own I suppose.

I feel that the item saving bit is cheesy. I am a little undecided about refilling your spellbook, though. On the one hand, it may be that sorcerers are meant to have an advantage over other magic users, since they don't use spellbooks. On the other hand, there is no evidence that Irenicus "wipes" your spells from you, so there is some solid footing for having spells out of the gate. Anyone else?

if you actually want to play the gaes as it was meant to be played why dont you just let the game take your stuff. I've done the little cheat and I can attest that it makes Irenicus' dungeon waaaaaaay too easy. Just let him take your gear, you get powered up soon enough.

Most of the stuff from BG I, you will find somewhere in Athkathla. So its not a big deal.

If you retain your items from BGI, they would include a Str enhancing belt, a good set of armour and sheild, a few better than +1 swords, etc. Chateau Irenicus would definately be a walk in the park.

Well...I find it hard to believe that Irenicus is going to let his prisoners wear armor and weild weapons...and possibly all their other goodies.

Besides, isnt Chateau Irenicus SUPPOSED to be a walk in the park??

It IS a walk in the park, so I think this is far to much of a cheesy part to integrate into the game, although I am going to give it a go to see how easy it makes the reat of the game.

If it was a more realistic start, large and offensive items wold have been taken, weapons, wands, summoning items etc. but you would still have your armour and anything you can pocket, rings, gems, scrolls, potions etc.

IIRC, the exact moment to press space is just before you hear the 'uaaagh' in the starting sequence, while it's still black. I've done it at that moment, more than once.

I didn't know that, Caleb. Perhaps that's why it's never worked for me. :(
