I had an interesting thing happen last night. I have the Item Upgrade Mod. I had previously used the +2 ring of protection I received from Aran Linvail, along with a ring of regeneration from Ribald, a diamond and 20,000 gold, to make a ring that gives a +2 armor class and saving throws, and regenerates.

Just yesterday, I did the same thing with a +2 ring of protection I received from the druid quest, the ring of regeneration from Spellhold, along with another diamond and 20,000 gold. When I asked Cromwell about it, the "Let's do it" option did not come up. The only choice I had was "Not right now".

    So a couple of questions:

Are either of those rings coded differently so Cromwell doesn't think I have the proper ingredients? Are you only allowed to make a single copy?

You can make as many copies as far as I'm aware of, I managed it myself so it must be coding then.

Of course you could always resort to using SK to giving yourself the ring, getting rid of the Diamond, Ring of protection and ring of regeneration and taking away 20,000gp, tbh though I don't think it is worth the cost.

I'd rather not use SK, simply because the read me file on the Item Upgrade Mod actually says that there are multiple copies of each item in SK, and it's easy to import the wrong one into the game. That even further complicates things, IMO, because then I don't know which one was "cheated" in and which one I really have. I was just wondering if anyone knew for sure if there was some issue with the coding on rings that have the same name. I assumed that unless it looked different, it had the same code, but obviously the read me file proves that theory wrong. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong (and if I have the correct components, what could I be doing wrong?), so I was wondering if anyone else encountered this.

It's true. Some items may be the same item but have different filenames.

Well, yeah, the item only looks like the item because that icon was given to it. First thing you see in IEEP.

As for the ring itself, the name has nothing to do with distinguishing the item, it's the code used. It shouldn't be hard to find the right one to use, there aren't many rings that use the same icon. Actually, I can only think of Ring of Protection +3. And bringing in the wrong one wouldn't do anything harmful, or at least not in any way that I can see. It doesn't work, wrong one. You can't remove the ring, yeah, definitely the wrong one.

And I don't think there's any issue on the fact that you've already created that item.

And just to address any possible cheating aspect, that shouldn't be an issue, because it is a fact that those items can be crafted into one. There's no reason, in the RP sense, why you couldn't do the same process. It's not like pickpocketing Tolgerias and killing him later to get the same item twice. You have new ingredients.
