I was just wondering , there seems to be a lack of thieves in the game , beside Yoshi , Iomen , and Jan , nobody else seems to really cut it.

You lose Yoshi after a while and get Iomen , but it Jan really that hot , I am currently using him as a backup mage and for traps and lock pick , but in any situation , he always takes serious damage.

I want to get his AC down to a more acceptable level , but with out his armor , he loses quite a lot in skills % wise and his dex is not that great if I can remember correctly.

So without all his own stuff is he really that great.

There generally seems to be a lack of semi decent characters in the game , compared to BG1.

The best character always seems to be the main one , or is that only my impression.

How about a kensai/mage as a NPC or a monk , have'nt come across any of those recently, or maybe a converted good vampire that does level drain to enemies. In a game this large they could have done alot better with more NPC's , stronger NPC's and more enemies.

Any if you have a look at you screen on the right they could have fitted one more character in , would make for some interesting play with a seven character party.

Give Jan the Elven Melodic Chain Mail (or something like that), which'll give him a base AC of 2 or 3, while it allows you to keep all your rogue- and mage-abilities. As long as you haven't found that one, get yourself Bracers of AC 3 or 4, but the wisest advice I can give you to keep Jan save is to really keep him out of any battle. Always have Invisibility or Mirror Image (Why oh why didn't they put Dimension Door in the game!?) ready to get you out of trouble (and a Stoneskin active of course). Anyway, if you don't waste points on Set Traps, you'll get yourself a superb Thief at the end, with maxed out skills for Detect Traps, Open Locks, Hide in Shadows and Move Silently. Maybe even Detect Illusion, but that's a rather louzy ability, so don't waste to much points on that either.

Eh, your suggestions for NPCs.. please don't get me started on the roleplaying-value of a kensai/mage (I know, some loath this word but it IS an RPG after all), although a Monk or Barbarian would have been really interesting (I guess they didn't have the time to do one of those since they decided only fairly late to add these classes). And actually I don't think a Vampire can be Good, not to mention it would be darn annoying to have a party-member you can only use one third of the day.

[IMG] It *would* be kinda cool to have a melancholic forced-to-do-good-things vampire in your party, though (whose sadness for whatever reason was stronger than death itself, or something extremely epic like that... a heroic story beyond your wildest dreams!)

As for the daylight problem; SUNBLOCK! (surely, there's an ointment for that??) :D

    (right, I'm ranting again...)

[IMG] Of course there aren´t enough potent thieves in the game.

Silly Yoshi as a bountyhunter doesn´t get as much thieving ability points to distribute than a regular thief. That´s not the only reason why I dislike him.

Imoen is dualclassed, so she won´t improve in her first class and can only be boosted with potions and items. Nalia is the worst thief of all.

Jan is multiclass and therefore somewhat restricted in his abilities - finally he´ll never be a really good allround thief.

So you get the worst thieves of all worlds in the game. My only hint is, as to be expected, play a thief yourself ;) :D

Jan can not wear the Melodic Chain Mail +3, as it's for bards only. Ther's no chain mail that he CAN wear at all.

I was thinking of dual classing my mage to a thief , but then thought out dual classing to a cleric , very undecisive.

    Pity you can't have mage/cleric/thief.

I would only dual class ofter max out in xp for the mage though , which would leave me with a shit character for the final run.

I thought as much about the melodic chain mail, can remember trying that.

I mean you can put him in that leather armor + 3 , cant remember what it's called , but then you lose spell casting ability.
