[IMG] Can jan use the giant hair crossbow sold in the adventurers mart? If not, what is the best weapon for him?

Also, i'm using viccy with crom in her off hand. what would be the best weapon to put in her main hand? i don't want to use a shield.

pls can you get back to me as quick as possible as it is getting late here and i still want to get some playing in. thanks.

    Well, let's see...

I always used the Crossbow of Speed with Jan for it's extra attack. If memory serves, Jan can't use the Giant Hair Crossbow because it's a heavy crossbow (not a thief weapon) and requires 18+ strength. I would also often give Jan proficiency in Short bows.

For Viccy - Flail of Ages is always a good choice, and the Wyvern's Tail is nice vs. Mages (for it's poison damage). On that note, the Blackblood Club is always a fave of mine, though it often ends up in Jahiera's hands. Mace of Disruption is good for her vs. undead.

    Quick enough?

Shot Death Rabbit. plenty quick :)

i'm thinking of giving FoA to my barbarian as well as a proficiency in long swords.

what about a bastard sword for viccy? probably jhor the bleeder.

i think it is a good idea for jan to use a shot bow. i'm sure i can find something acceptable.gesen bow is the best i think.

thanks again for the quick response.

:skeptic: Unless you're using G3 Tweaks, clerics can't wield swords.
Unh-unh. Jan is a crossbow guy. You can't use the Flashers with a short bow.

EDIT: Oh please. You're acting like I'm going to reach through the computer and stop his hand. It's still his decision; I was just giving him my opinion.

Yes, but you can switch back and forth. If he wants to try the short bow let him try the damn short bow.

I like giving Jan a point in Short Bow and letting him use one of these powerful weapons (IMO, the two best missile weapons are Short Bows).

Klorox. what are the two bows you are talking about?

Death rabbit and fel. shot to both you guys for the help. i'd rather be fully informed about any descisions i make so every little bit from you guys helps.

Regardless, klorox's comment has swayed me towards short bows. if you hadn't realised by now i often get swayed pretty easily :D

Well, Tuigan's a great bow early, and there's a reason you need to assemble Gesen; it's that good. And then in ToB, Darkfire takes the cake with the one use a day of Improved Haste (plus some minor elemental resistances).

Ashes of Embers. :) And Tansheron's bow is not from a mod.

For Viccy I use either slings or maces. I don't like the flail option as it means I need to use a strength item on her; I'd rather reserve those for the tanks.

I'm gonna give viccy crom (eliminating strength problems) and another war hammer. seems like the best option.

Quite late but I usually give Sling of Everard (?) to either Jan, Aerie, Jahiera, or Vicky, whichever is in my party. That way I don't get to hear the "Weapon is inneffective" or "no effect" comment from them.

Agreed with giving Jan a proficiency point in short bows. Also, I like using Firetooth. It has great damage for a missile weapon (2d4+3 fire damage), and as a +4 weapon, it hits just about everything.

It's not like there's only one short bow in the game. In fact, in SoA, I'd say there are at least 3 short bows that are better than any crossbow. Granted, I'm counting Gesen as one of them which won't be available until Chapter 6.
