[IMG] There was one of thpse jubilee parties going on just across the street, and it was really loud, all night there was cheer, after cheer, after cheer etc.

Now I'm not against the queen or anything, but I would like to get a bit of sleep.

I was watching the parades on TV, and it was "Jam-packed" with people, watching. And luckily it didn't rain, I didn't realise we were so ... patriotic.:rolling::roll::rolling:

Well, I saw a bit of the concert on the tv and I was surprised to see so many people outside the palace, you people must be very fond of your queen.

I was offended that with all the celebrations of English this and British that there was no mention of the Americans who fought and died for the UK.

    XOXO,

    His Royal Shralpishness

I don't understand what is so great about a woman doing absolutely nothing for 50 years. I am not really against monarchies (I live in one myself), but I don't see the use of having a king or queen, who basicly have no function than to show up in public once in a while and give a speech. With that comes that a big amount of tax goes to the royal family. I am not saying it should disappear, but I guess I wouldn't mind if it disappeared.

SilverBlade, it is my opinion that neither me or anyone else is in any position to question the Queen's authority. She is a better person of higher staus than us and none of us have the right to question her position on the throne. Sorry i hate anti Royalists. Oh and she DOES do charity work and act as a good will ambassador to the rest of the world.

    'She is a better person...'

How is the Queen of England a better person than anyone else?

Because she is Royal blood. that is the problem these days. pompous people think they have the right to be as good as a member of royalty. It's about time you were all told your place. They are better, you don't like it, tough.

Yes but jack funk your american you wouldn't understand... if i was put in the higly unlikley situation i would defend the Queen with my life. however if yu thought her equal then you would stand side by side with her and not actually protect her from harm as your life is equal in value tohers. this is a stupid situation, therefore, because most patriotic people would lay their life down for thier Queen they must believe she is a better person than they are! Simple. jesus it is not as stupid as you think it is.

    Sir Dargorn,
I never stated that you or your admiration for your queen were stupid. I disagree that anyone is superior (or worthy of defense) for such arbitrary reasons.
Your anger and venom are surprising. As you stated, I am an American. Not only that, I am an Irish-American (50% anyway). So it would be easy for me to take a tone with you (and your queen), but I don't.
Let me ask you this, is all royal blood superior? Is an African Queen just as deserving of adulation as an English Queen? What about the King and Queen of Spain?

If you are a monarchist, and believe in the nobility, then yes, all those of royal blood (and those of noble blood as well) are superior. If you are not a monarchist, then the answer is no, they are not superior.

The traditional western idea is that a King, Queen or any other monarchical ruler, rules by 'divine right', ie, by the will of God. Although the god, goddess, etc will differ from culture to culture, the divinity behind the royal blood is consistent throughout most cultures, with minor differences of course. In some cultures (Japan I believe is one example) the ruling monarch is considered to be divine, a step up from ruling by divine right.

sorry i was drunk, i am a little more sobre now.

The answer is yes, i do believe ANY king or queen is superior. But not to the extent you think i do. i respect their authority and do not even think about argueing about wether or not they should be dissolved. i simply say it is not for us to decide. However in the Human sense they are equal. And i don't believe that they are put their by divine Right. However i do accept authority and therefore will never consider myself equal in stature to the Queen or indeed any monarch. And i said it was hard for Americans to understand, not because i was being rude, just that you don't have a Monarch.

I'm offended that we 'celebrate' a head of state that has been around unelected for 50 years. And one who believes she got the post through the will of a fictional character, not that of the people of the country.

I don't mean any disrespect to the people from all over the world who died in World War II, but firstly the war was over when Elizabeth II was crowned. And secondly the jubilee is the one time when we get to celebrate britain and being British. It's not about thanking all the British, Americans, French, Indians, Canadians (and countless others) that died in World War II, and to be honest I'm pretty offended that a) you're trying to stir up a "Did American save Europe?" arguement purely because our country gets a turn in the spotlight rather than yours.

It's a little sickening to be honest, but I don't mean any offence and please don't start an arguement over this and ruin the thread.

Also, I'm neither for or against the Monarchy really, but it's a figurehead of Britain, and as she doesn't really have any major power I don't see any harm in it. Plus we kinda need it for the national anthem to work.
