I've posted this a couple of other places, but no one can seem to decide or present a really convincing argument.

I have a player who wants to start a level 1 human monk (3rd edition) and wants to know if they can take both Dodge and Mobility as feats. Now, Mobility requires the aquisition of Dodge and a Dex of 13+. Because he is human, he wants to use his Bonus feat to get Mobility.

One side argues that by rules the feats are attained at the same time and that the Mobility wouldn't be a possible choice.

The opposition says that sensibly the Dodge and Mobility are abilities picked up by the adventurer. Thus they could've concievably learned Dodge then Mobility before reaching level 1.

Any insight on how other DM's would handle this? I'll probably give it to him, but I'd like to see other people's insights.

[IMG] I dunno, it seems pretty clear to me...

On page 77 of the Player's Handbook:

"A character can gain a feat at the same level at which he or she gains the prerequisite."

I don't see how that would preclude gaining both Dodge and Mobility at the same level according to the rules.

Dude, are you still set on creating your Half-Fiend monk PC?

By the way, I wouldn't really see any problem with it. I just see it as though they have been working at both. (Humans have the extra feat and therefor are able to learn more.) It's just like when Sorcerers get spells. It is assumed that they have been working at them for a while.

Hell yes, Half-Fiend, Lawful-evil monk/drunken master. Just think about it. In a bar, looking pretty ugly and evil. Someone steps up and picks a fight... hehe...

    *here's for the damages...

    NEways...
That's what I was thinking. It makes sense, but people were debating it elsewhere.

That will be cool. I can't wait to see the day you play him...

Drunken Master! There's an idea that my PCs will no doubt love. I think I'll make a prestige class Drunken Master.
