I'm figuring on heading to get Imoen at around the time I'm making the switch to mage. I figure this'll leave my team pretty weak in the tank department. MAybe Jaheria can handle it, maybe not.
I'm going in with only 5 people (at least that was the plan) Anyone with a suggestion?

    Jan
(and whatever npc i'm sponging quests/xp off of)

Guess if you can't say anything nice....

    But HEY!
My first time through was a monk!
Anything else would be a weakling!

[IMG] Jan, Imoen, *AND* a kensai/mage?!? I can understand your tank concerns. If you're not worried about harmony, Korgan is a great tank. Otherwise, try Keldorn. His true sight is quite helpful.

Hmm, I´d normally say Yoshimo but hes not that kind of guy you need.
I think that Keldorn is all right, but itßs a waste to kick him out at spellhold. So I suggest: Take Korgan, he´s the ultimate tank in the game and an acceptable loss IMHO.

I don't think it matters that much. All it affects is your battle tactics. My first time through was also with a monk.

My second was with a k/m with Minsc, Keldorn, Sir Anomen, Jaheira and Yoshi/Imoen (so I went with a lot of melee power).

Now I'm doing the opposite (sort of). Soloing with a sorcerer. Requires different tactics but that's the whole point and what makes this game replayable.

So bottom line is that you should choose the team you enjoy most. I believe you can survive with any setup.

for the first time i am not going to flame a Kensai/Mage...

well i can understand wanting mage power... but blimey... :D

nah... i'd go with Keldorn... or possibly Anomen depending if you want the arrogant git or not... another healer would be useful... and later on he can beome a pretty good tank-like fighter... or in my experience anyway!

With Imoen in the party, this can be a real problem. The mage is vulnurable, a Kensai/Mage too, Minsc with two-weapon-style will have no low AC. You should have someone in the party that is allways first in the battle an has a very low AC to get the hits from the enemy fighters. This can be Jaheira. Give here a low AC (fortress shield (later the sentinel and a good armor, ring of protection +2 etc.)

There is a very nice combination for her. Specialize in WarHammer. Later in the game she can use the Sentinel (medium shield +4) and Crom Fayr. Give her also the sling of seeking (Sling +2 + STRENGTH BONUS! str=25) :) So she becomes a very dagerous fighter/priest with very low AC and a very good kick and melee atack!

urm... i'm sorry to say Headbanger my friend that Jay can't use Warhammers... nice try though!

the problem with Jay using shields is the fact that there just aren't enough Single-Handed weapons she can use.

the scimitar is about the best weapon she can get her hands on and there are not many of them. But this has been discussed before i think...

You're right.... I play this combination with my Cleric, forgot that Jaheira is a fighter/druid :) With my cleric (multiplayer) it realy is a great combination.

Made the swich last night. I had real deep thougts about taking the K/thief path as the time came to make the dual. I've been letting little Jan take quad damage hits on people and that gets kinda addicting. I'm thinking that he'll be back soon, right? I can't remember a mage xp chart, but it's only every ...

I just went and looked. Where the f*ck am I gonna come up with 1,125,000 xpoints in order to get my tank back????????

    One Million
    One Hundred Twentyfive Thousand

    hehehe

Dual-Classing from a fighter to most classes will later on allow your character to be a "tank".

and yes... a dualled Fighter/Cleric is one wikked idea... i did this and made the most powerful character that i have ever played with.

and with Crom or Flail of Ages they can kick some Kobold arse! :D

Hah. Never dual past level 9 with a fighter. The benifits aren't worth the wait you have to go through before you have a complete dual classed character. I dualed my Kensai/Mage (no flames Deanno) at level 9 and he worked out fine. The extra thaco isn't necessary. Though it is nice, I'd rather be a level 9 Kensai/level 17 mage than a level 13 Kensai/level 13 mage. You are missing out one some of the best spells.

I prefer dualclassing at lvl-6 in BG-1 for as a fighter you won´t earn any prof slots until reaching lvl 9 or so. Having not a BG-1 save-char dualclassing at lvl 8 is best.

[IMG] For a tank I use Haer'Dalis right now. With his defensive and offensive capabilities, he shields the fest of the group. With his harp, he can do ranged+area attacks. And he know a spell or two. :)

I picked up anomen just to do his quest, but I started to remember that he can be one terrific tank. He's got over 100 hp, good strength (an absolutely LAME dex), all of which can be boosted to killer levels (literally) with Holy Might and Righteous Magic. So now I got to figure who to drop, and it looks like Jaheria, if only I can keep Vivky in the group...
