    The only time that I can remember seeing either of these authors or their books mentioned in this forum is when I'm extolling their virtues in some post or other.

    Has anyone else read these authors - if so did you dislike them? and if you haven't read them then why not? :)

    I'm just interested to see whether I have strange taste in books or its just that people haven't read the books.

    Note: Kate Elliott is writing the Crown of Stars series and J.V. Jones is writing her second trilogy (black ice, grey ice, red ice...). Both are working on the final books in their current series at the moment. Kate Elliott is almost as slow a writer as George R.R. Martin!

    I have read and enjoyed Kate Elliott's Crown of Stars books and I intend to continue to read her books in the future. I wouldn't say that she is one of my favourite authors but I do like her books.

    I have read J.V. Jones' Book of Words novels and while I did finish reading the trilogy I did not enjoy it enough to make me want to go out and read anything else by J.V. Jones. I suppose if I heard enough people start raving about how good Black Ice is that I might give it a try but I currently have a fair pile of unread books by authors that I like so the odds of my giving J.V. Jones another chance anytime soon are fairly slim.

    I enjoyed the Baker's Boy series by J.V. Jones. I think I also enjoyed Cavern of Ice book, but after having to wait 4.5 years for the sequel I kind of lost interest. Now I would have to reread the first book to remember what the heck happened.

    I also feel the same way about Melanie Rawn's Exile saga. The last book (per amazon) was published in March of 1998. Amazon is taking pre-orders on the next book that still doesn't have a publication date.

    Is Exiles the Ambrai saga? I have some Rawn books here I read a long time ago, I cant even remember if the series was finished but I think it was called Exiles. It was about the sisters fighting each other and some mage faction called Malerrisi or something? I do remember that I enjoyed it back in the day.

    As for the two writers this thread is mainly about I have not read them but seeing as they are recommended I will probably give them a shot one of these days.

    Also give 'The Golden Key' by Rawn and Elliott (and some other well known female fantasy author I can never remember the name of) a try - it's one of my favourite books. I'm not sure how it compares to other Rawn books not having read any yet, but I keep meaning to read her books ever since reading this.

    The Golden Key's other author was Jennifer Roberson. I have been considering giving her Sword-Dancer books a read so if anyone else has read them and can give an opinion as to whether or not they are worth a look I would appreciate it.

    @Joacqin

    Yes Ambrai = Exiles saga.

    The first two books in the series are good. I just checked out Rawn's website and she hasn't even started the 3rd book yet.

    How people keep fans is amazing to me.

    @ The Great Snook - I just took a look at Rawn's website and found the FAQ where it states that she has not started writing the third book but if you look at the top the FAQ says it was last updated March 13, 1998. Of course if she still hasn't published the book after five and a half years that gives an even worse impression in my mind.
